Winter Storm Miles will impact millions across the U.S. through the end of the week. Snow, severe weather, and an increased flood potential are all in play as this storm moves across the country.

Tornadoes, hail, and damaging winds are possible Wednesday night through Thursday AM in OK/TX/AR.
This threat shifts east throughout the day on Thursday and into Friday AM.

A Heat Advisory goes into effect tomorrow for parts of southern California as temperatures soar 10-20° above average for this time of year.

Thanks to persistent frigid air across the Great Lakes to start 2022, the current ice cover is running above average!
Check out Lake Erie on the visible satellite imagery from yesterday. The current ice cover is north of 80%. Thanks to the shallower nature of Erie, it freezes over quickest.

Hey everyone!
It’s been a handful of months since I have posted, but I was finally able to get access back to this page. A few months back I made a career change and joined The Weather Channel as a weather producer. I’ve enjoyed every moment of it so far! I’ve tracked all types of weather from coast to coast since I started last September. Now that I have access back to this page I plan to post more frequently on it.

Tropical Storm Ida is slowly getting better organized this morning. Once the storm crosses into the Gulf of Mexico this weekend significant strengthening is expected. Here's the latest information from the National Hurricane Center where a major hurricane is expected by landfall.

Tropical Depression Nine is on the board. Here is a look at the current information and the first projected storm track from the NHC.
For now it looks as if this system stays well off to our west. We will continue to monitor it as we head into the next few days.

Showers are forming now just off to our southeast. Expect scattered showers and thunderstorms for the afternoon and evening hours. A few storms could be strong to severe (gusty winds will be the biggest threat) hence the Marginal (level 1/5) risk area for part of Middle Georgia.

Showers and thunderstorms will become more widespread as we head into the afternoon. Temperatures will struggle to make it out of the 80's in some spots!

Still monitoring three areas of tropical activity this morning. The disturbance in the Caribbean Sea could strengthen into a named storm as it is expected to make it into the Gulf of Mexico by the weekend. Too early for forecast specifics, but we will keep an eye on it.

A level 2 threat for severe storms has been extended into Middle Georgia today, mainly for storms that will be firing up this afternoon. Main threats will be damaging wind gusts, heavy rain, and hail.
Saturday will bring another round of severe storms as a line of storms moves through the area.
I’m out of town today but Dalton Mullinax 41NBC will have all your updates today and tomorrow.

2 years ago Dalton Mullinax 41NBC and I covered one of the biggest severe weather days during my career in Middle Georgia. We ended up with 11 confirmed tornadoes that day that ranged from EF-0 to EF-2, and while we saw a lot of damage, thankfully there were very few injuries and no deaths in our area. Thanks for sticking with us when the weather gets rough. What do you remember from that day?

SUNDAY NIGHT TROPICS UPDATE: After an excellent fall weekend, we are already looking at a new tropical system moving into the Gulf of Mexico. This system, currently called potential tropical cyclone 26 is forecast to become Tropical Storm (and eventually Hurricane) Delta by tomorrow afternoon.
Right now it looks like conditions in the Gulf are primed for rapid intensification (at least in the beginning stages), but this system will likely be limited to a category 2 storm. Landfall is forecast anywhere from the western panhandle of Florida to western Louisiana.
WHAT THIS MEANS FOR MIDDLE GEORGIA: Based on the current forecast and some model data the main impacts in Middle GA will be tropical rain bands, maybe some gusty winds, and potentially some severe storms (brief spin up tornadoes). All of this will be pretty touch and go based on the forecast changes between now and the end of the week (of which there will be many).
