The faders typically affect volume AFTER your plugin inserts. Therefore, putting a plugin on a signal that is already loud will affect the sound as it is. The signal is coming in too hot at the plugin stage, which is before the fader, and you think turning down the fader will help. In other words, it is best practice to turn down the audio signal before plugins, usually with a gain plugin at the beginning of the insert chain or CLIP gaining in the edit window.

What is reverberation time?

When you sing in that great hall with amazing reverb, the amount of time it takes from when you sing the note, to when it has completely faded away is known as the reverberation time. The decay time is also sometimes referred to as the reverbs ‘tail’, with a longer tail fading to silence more slowly.
