Left or Right? Why a Character's Lateral Movement On-Screen Matters in Film

Rules are meant to be broken, but I do find this really interesting.

If there's only one tenet of filmmaking you learn today, let it be that everything, everything in your film matters -- including the direction your characters are moving on-screen. That's right. It matters whether your actors are moving right or left across the screen. Or whether your character appe…

Edward David Anderson - New Album Promo

A few months ago we caught up with Edward David Anderson just outside Muscle Shoals, AL with cameras in tow, to capture the recording of his upcoming new album. Produced by Grammy Award winner Jimmy Nutt, this album is packed with great tunes and we are honored that we were there to capture it all. Stay tuned for more videos from this session as we approach the album release.

For more music from Ed, visit, find him on iTunes, Spotify or wherever you feed your musical soul.

Always a pleasure to work with such an amazing crew!

Behind the scenes....We have an amazing team of editors, producers, directors, sound engineers and talented hosts that work very hard to tell the stories of C&O's amazing cars and their owners in a unique and authentic way. The TV show is a hit because of their efforts and the support you have given C&O for a very long time. It has always been the people who bring their cars rain or shine, hot or cold that have motivated us to try and make C&O the best monthly car event in the USA. It was a very cold and wet first Sunday in February of 2015, huddled under a tent with mostly people we did not know that taught us C&O is really about a community where you always have an opportunity to make new friends and share stories. Complete strangers with very diverse backgrounds with a passion for cars become friends each month because of a chance meeting at Caffeine & Octane. This is what really makes us the proudest.

So here we are, 2 1/2 years after that cold wet morning under a leaky tent laughing about the scene with the Prelude Club and a few other friends, we are now premiering the Caffeine & Octane TV Show's 2nd season on the NBC Sports Network during prime time to a national audience. 9 million people have watched C&O's first season on the Velocity Channel. That is pretty amazing. Our goal is to keep sharing stories in an authentic way about real people and their love for cars, only now we are doing it under a much bigger tent. We appreciate your support more than you will ever know and hope you will all be watching on Thursday nights beginning October 19th knowing that you have helped create something very special.

It would be great to hear your story below about your first C&O visit and also to see a list of friends you have made because you were willing to get up way too early the first Sunday of every month. Please tag them to help spread the word about the new season on NBC Sports. Car friends are the type you can really count on when you need them and ours have come through for us every time. We can't thank them enough.

Always feel free to say hello to us at the show and we welcome your ideas on how we can make C&O better each month. I read every e-mail. I am just not always able to respond as quickly as I would like. Hope to see you on September 3rd!
Best, Bruce / [email protected]

Southern Music Series

Check out our newest venture - Southern Music Series. If you like live music in an intimate setting, if you think we should all strive to experience more, come check out the new page, like it and share it. The more support we get, the more we can continue to showcase amazing music the and artist that call the South home.

We were fortunate enough to convince Joe, Rafael and Drew to meet us in the middle of nowhere on the banks of the Chattahoochee River to record the very first Southern Music Series live session. No one was quite sure what we'd come away with, but we knew it would be something special.

We have a dream to make music important again. A dream to make you stop, listen, look around and take it in. We had the chance to do that with Joe and the guys and now you get that chance too.

Please spread the word, share the video, and check out Joe McGuinness.

There's so much talent and music out there and we hope to bring you a ton more!

Pro Video Coalition - Kicking the tires on Avid Media Composer 8.5

Overall I appreciate the updates in the new version. If not for the few obviously missing or overlooked features, I'd say 8.5 is a long-overdue step in the right direction. Avid

Now this is too cool!

Perception is a fickle thing. As good as our senses are at keeping us alive, they can often mislead and deceive us. Here’s a great example of that which you can try at home, featured in the new BBC Four series, Colour: The Spectrum of Science. Check out the video below, follow the instructions and s…

Your Best Color: The Indie Director's Guide to Color Correction - MovieMaker Magazine

As a working colorist, I try to impress many of these points on clients as early as possible in the pre-production phase. Too often however, color grading becomes an afterthought. It's the last step in the chain and indie budgets are often non-existent by this time (if they ever existed at all). But it doesn't have to be this way. Planning and communication can stretch your budget considerably and ensure your film will look its best.

Sure, you thought about your edit, visual effects, and music during pre-production… but you overlooked color correction. This happens often, yet color is an incredibly important part of any film—a huge driver for mood and tone.
