OFFICIAL STATEMENT
From the Management of MLC Talk:
It has come to our attention that concerns have been raised regarding the network’s engagement with the ongoing developments involving the Bishop and the matter at Lofa University. Some senior members of the Lutheran Church in Liberia (LCL) have expressed discomfort and have suggested that MLC Talk should refrain from addressing this issue publicly.
Let it be made unequivocally clear: the mission of MLC Talk is grounded in truth, accountability, and open dialogue. These values are not negotiable. When matters arise that affect the integrity, credibility, and spiritual stewardship of our church, silence is not an option. Silence is not protection—it is avoidance. The Church does not mature through the suppression of discussion; it matures through honest reflection and responsible engagement.
Addressing issues that impact the church’s moral standing is not “bad-mouthing.” It is a necessary act of Christian responsibility. Accountability is not hostility; it is stewardship. As believers, we are called to seek truth in love, to confront what is difficult, and to speak with clarity and fairness—even when it concerns leadership.
MLC Talk is a space that welcomes Lutherans and members of various denominations. We embrace diverse perspectives because the Church is part of society, not separate from it. We cannot demand transparency from government, institutions, or communities while denying it within our own household of faith.
A Church that forbids discussion whenever leadership is under scrutiny risks losing its moral authority. Our standard cannot shift based on titles or positions. What is measurable for one must be measurable for all. Truth does not threaten the Church—concealment does.
Our objective is not to damage the Church, nor to condemn its leadership. Our aim is to foster accountability, truth, and reform where necessary. Love for the body of Christ requires courage, not silence. Growth happens through reflection, not concealment.
God watches everything—not just our actions, but also our silence.
For this reason, we reaffirm that MLC Talk will continue to discuss matters affecting the Church with respect, maturity, and balance. We will not retreat from dialogue simply because it challenges comfort zones. Truth and transparency will remain our guiding principles.
