I just spent what was supposed to be one week in Los Angeles working and then hanging out with friends. That turned into 2 weeks.

I did a lot of work + a whole lot of shopping with San Francisco's first Black woman Mayor London Breed, met Congresswoman , had dinner with plus model Tocarra Jones and Dr. Michael Obeng, the doctor who removed the from that woman's head, hung attended two of Dave Brown's (Jamie Foxx's BFF) celebrity parties, stayed in 3 different hotels around the city + at the LA home of my good good friend/mentor.

And I captured it all in a two-part vlog series on YouTube!

Malcolm-Jamal Warner has died.

And for Black Gen X, at least for ME, this loss cuts deep.

He wasn’t just Theo Huxtable.

He was our brother. He was us.
He was the cool, funny, vulnerable, deeply human boy we grew up with on screen. He was proof that Black boys could be tender, stylish, smart, awkward and loved.

Theo was the prototype for Black Boy Joy before we had a name for it.

He made it okay to not be perfect.
He made it okay to grow up, mess up, glow up, and still be worthy of love.

His presence on The Cosby Show helped reframe how America saw Black families. But more importantly, he helped us see ourselves.

His artistry extended beyond acting to music, poetry, directing. He was constantly evolving. Quietly brilliant. Never thirsty for fame. Just deeply rooted in his craft.

I met him once.

In Atlanta, at West Egg on Howell Mill Road.

We were both picking up to go orders. I was handed his food and he was handed mine. I was in my car when he tapped on the window and said he was sure he had my food and I had his. I opened the container I had and sure enough, the restaurant had mixed up our orders.

I said, "What's the chance that I would have Theo Huxtable's food?" He laughed. We laughed. And I said thank you for all the wonderful memories over the years, and asked for a hug. He obliged with an "absolutely sister."

To lose him is to lose a part of our cultural DNA.
Our childhood. Our coming-of-age.
The safety and joy of Blackness in living rooms across the country every Thursday night.

Rest in Power, Malcolm-Jamal Warner.
Thank you for growing up with us.
Thank you for showing us ourselves.

Change your passwords on your online banking regularly folks. My credit union restricted my account yesterday because my password was found in a security breach and someone tried to access my account several times yesterday.

My financial institution SHUT ISHT DOWN immediately and I almost had to give them my great grandmama on my Daddy's Daddy's side to get access to my money.

Y'all take all the necessary precautions please because it's getting wild out here ... oh and make sure you have some cash somewhere too! With the Felon letting Elon get access to our financial information can only spell incoming crisis!
