American voters have short memories. But we can't forget how bad things were under Trump...how we lost our spirit.
There was no literature or poetry in his White House. No music. No Kennedy Center award celebrations. No White House correspondents dinners. There were no pets in the White House. No loyal dog. No Socks the family cat. No kids’ science fairs.
There were no pictures or videos of the first family enjoying themselves together in happy moments of relaxation. No Biden bike rides, or Obamas on the beach in Hawaii, or Bushes fishing in Kennebunkport, no Reagans on horseback, no Kennedys playing touch football on the Cape.
One summer when Pappi George HW Bush couldn’t catch a fish, all of the grandkids made signs and counted the fish-less days. Even the people who didn’t like Bush got caught up in the joy of a family that loved each other and had fun.
There were no human moments like that under Trump. There was no fun or joy or expressions of love and happiness. Before Trump, we used to have presidents who calmed and soothed the nation instead of dividing us. We had First Ladies who planted gardens instead of ripping them out.
Under Trump, we lost the cultural aspects of society that make America great. We lost our mojo. Our fun, our happiness. The shared experiences of humanity that make life worth it. We lost so much In such a short time. We can't forget about all of that.
We're thankfully getting those things back under Biden. But it's going to take some time to fix everything that Trump broke. Biden and Harris deserve a lot of credit for many things, not the least of which is restoring our American spirit.
