My remote workstation served me well today. My laptop is powered by a small 2-stroke motor generator. It puts out enough voltage to keep my laptop charged. I barely got through 5 gallons of 2 stroke mix, too. I know what you’re thinking…yes, the view is perfect! But now the weekend starts. See less

Somehow we’re still treating pre-filling an oil filter like it’s some sacred ceremony handed down from ancient engine gurus—as if skipping it means your engine is going to self-destruct the moment you turn the key.
It’s a basic spin-on filter, not a dry-sump race motor spinning 9,000 RPM. The engine builds oil pressure in a couple seconds, yet people act like you need to delicately pour oil into every tiny opening like you’re performing a ritual, or the bearings are going to revolt.
Half the time they end up dumping more oil down the side of the filter and all over the engine than what actually makes it inside, then install it at an angle and act like they just saved the motor from certain death. Meanwhile, manufacturers don’t require it, and millions of cars roll out of quick l**e shops every single day without pre-filling—and they somehow manage to keep running just fine.
But according to the “pre-fill experts,” skipping that step is basically mechanical negligence and your crankshaft is about to take legal action. At this point, it feels like people just want extra steps to seem more skilled, when in reality the engine couldn’t care less either way. See less

I came across a 19/32” wrench the other day, and it got me thinking—what on earth is this even meant for? It’s such an oddly specific size that it feels like it must have a very particular purpose… but I can’t quite figure out what. See less

I’m so tired of boomers acting like putting oil on the seal of an oil filter is some life or death procedure like the engine is going to instantly seize if you don’t perform the sacred (O-ring) anointing ritual… it’s a rubber gasket not a dry sump race motor, it’s literally going to seal either way once it gets oil pressure 2 seconds, after startup but they swear you need to sit there massaging **0W20** onto it like you’re prepping a Michelin star steak or the filter is going to weld itself to the block and take the threads with it, and then they hit you with the (good luck getting that off next time) , like it’s gonna fuse to the housing and need a torch and a priest to remove, meanwhile filters come off fine every day. but nah according to them if you don’t perfectly coat that seal it’s gonna bind, tear, leak, cross thread itself, void the warranty, and somehow total the car all at once, standing over your shoulder like you’re defusing a bomb waiting to see if you did the sacred step so they can nod in approval, as if the entire engine’s survival depends on a tiny film of oil on a rubber ring instead of the gallons of oil about to hit it the second it fires.. Snap-On really has the audacity to charge mortgage-payment prices for tools just for my dead blow hammer to literally transform itself into a “Snap-Off” in the middle of a simple job 💀 everybody swears you’re paying for “professional quality” and “American craftsmanship” but somehow this thing exploded like a Harbor Freight clearance item after a couple normal taps. At this point I’m convinced the only thing premium about Snap-On is the weekly truck payment they trap mechanics into. $201 for a hammer that identifies as a gr***de the second it sees actual work is insane. Meanwhile the tool truck guy is gonna show up smiling talking about “well technically that’s abuse” because apparently using a hammer as a hammer voids the warranty now See less

I genuinely will never understand the thought process of buying critical, high-performance valvetrain components in a sketchy, unlabelled ziplock bag from a random stranger on Facebook Marketplace. 🤦‍♂️ You thought you were scoring a killer deal on authentic BTR LS7 lifters, but instead, you just bought some no-name, white-box knockoffs that are practically guaranteed to eat your camshaft the second you fire it up. 💥
Stop trying to build a reliable engine on a flea-market budget! Why are people so willing to risk completely destroying their entire motor just to save fifty bucks on mystery meat lifters? 🕵️‍♂️ See less

To whoever installed this mystery shower valve decades ago without leaving a single identifying mark — I hope you know I am suffering because of your decisions.
We are replacing the tub and shower trim but planned on keeping the existing valve since it still functions great. Sounds simple, right? WRONG.
Apparently this valve was manufactured by a company that either no longer exists or operated entirely in secrecy because I cannot find matching trim ANYWHERE.
Now I’m standing in a gutted bathroom covered in drywall dust trying to identify a brass relic from another era while my entire renovation is at a standstill.
If anyone knows the manufacturer or where I can find a compatible trim kit and handle, I would deeply appreciate the help before I’m forced to replace the entire valve body out of pure frustration.

What is this thing we found while cleaning out my mom's house?
It's plastic about 2 1/2 inches long and it's spring loaded when you pinch the bottom, it opens the top with five sharp teeth in the middle of that square area.
