Tragic Breaking News: Dreams Cut Short in LaGuardia Horror
Two young Canadian pilots killed as Air Canada jet slams into fire truck on LaGuardia runway
In a devastating runway collision at New York’s LaGuardia Airport late Sunday night, Capt. Antoine Forest, 30, and First Officer Mackenzie Gunther lost their lives when their Air Canada Express CRJ-900 from Montreal struck a Port Authority fire truck. The ambitious aviators—both at the dawn of promising careers after years chasing their sky-high dreams—were the only fatalities. Dozens of passengers and crew were injured, but quick actions helped avert even greater loss.
Forest, a Quebec native who first took the controls at 16, and Gunther, a recent Seneca Polytechnic aviation graduate, embodied the next generation of Canadian pilots. Their deaths have shocked families, colleagues, and the aviation community.
Investigation ongoing into runway safety and response failures.
