Episode 149 is now live. In this episode Nick and spend some time discussing perhaps our second favorite pastime, music on vinyl. We spent some time recently after recording a previous episode talking about the similarities of traditional archery and the resurgent in popularity of vinyl records and decided it would make a nice episode. Also, with the next episode being a bit of a milestone at 150 episodes, Nick has graciously offered a Hardcover copy of his book "Clumsy Predators" as a give away!! To enter, like this post, share the post to your personal timeline and then come back and comment on this post that you have completed both steps. We will select a random name from the list of people that complete these two steps and announce the winner on the next episode. Entries must be competed by midnight August 25th to be eligible. Details are also at the beginning of the episode. Good luck all!!!

Nick and I spend a bit of time having a discussion about a recent Facebook post that got our attention. The post we are talking about asked the question: "would our great grandfathers would be proud of the pursuit of trophy whitetails by hunters today?". There was a good bit more about that post to unpack and Nick and I just had a conversation much like we would have done had we been sitting around a campfire. Nothing we say here was meant to be an attack on the individual that made the post, we do understand the point the person was trying to make, it was simply the thoughts that we had come to mind that found their way into our conversation and we recorded an episode while sharing those thoughts. We hope you enjoy and would love to hear your own thoughts on this topic.

In loving memory of Jerry Brumm. Nick and I interviewed Jerry at Comptons way back in 2018. Such a great time chatting with Jerry both before, during and after the interview. So sad they he is no longer with us. Nick and I send condolences to his family and all of his friends around the world.

In Episode #16 both Nick and I are recording on location at the Compton Traditional Bowhunter’s Rendezvous in Berrien Springs Michigan. We managed to pull Jerry Brumm away from his booth for about an hour [...]

I have to go on record and state that Garmin is hands down one of the best companies I have ever worked with from a customer service perspective. I have been a customer since around 1996 when I purchased a Garmin 12XL. I can't tell you how many miles I carried that device, it ultimately failed due to the internal battery not holding a charge.....they replaced it and even pre-shipped the replacement before receiving my RMA. Later I owned a Garmin GPSMAP 60....never had an issue with that unit till I sold it for my Montana which has also never failed me. I had an early Foretrex wrist unit that I used as a backup, it was unreliable with acquiring sattelites and they not only replaced it, but they upgraded it to the later version. I still own that 601 unit. 2 years ago I purchased an Instinct 2 Solar watch from Garmin. Since then I have worn that watch daily. It has been through everything with me.....hunting, fishing, swimming, yardwork, farm work, archery range, workouts, hikes...you name it and it was there! It has always had an issue where it would just randomly enter GPS mode. For no reason it would do this, sometimes while just sitting on the couch. About a week ago I reached out to Garmin on Facebook using Messenger and KC from customer support responded and I walked him through the issue. With some back and forth asking me to update software, perform a hard reset and capturing on video when the issue would occur (which took a little time to capture) he ultimately had me send them the Garmin folder and files from the device which I did this morning. Less than two hours later I get a response that after looking at the files they determined there was a faulty button and even though a few months out of warranty they sent me return label and stated that they will send me a new Instinct 2 device once they have my return. THIS is customer service!!!! As I have said multiple times, I will be a Garmin customer for life! Amazing customer service and awesome products!!!!

The Traditional Outdoors Podcast is Focused on Preserving Outdoor Traditions

The Traditional Outdoors Podcast is a weekly podcast focused on knowledge, education, entertainment and promotion of good stewardship when spending time in the outdoors. Our first love is bowhunting with traditional archery equipment. However, we will be diving head first into other areas of discussion such as fishing, camping, hiking, backpacking, cooking in the outdoors and more. Sometimes the discussion will be just “campfire” style conversation among friends, other times we will have guests on the show discussing a wide range of outdoor topics. We hope you enjoy.
