In May 2025 I’m offering my signature class Black Voices, Choices. One LAST time. This online class provides is a safe environment to explore Black voices in audiobooks and the experience of being a Black narrator. Each class offers time for group discussion and performance coaching.

The May session is for Black narrators at all experience levels. I offer another perspective on voicing Black characters based on the idea of portraying fully human people. We consider the intersection of character ambition and origin; code switching and intersectionality; archetype vs stereotype. Feel free to reach out with questions.

Feedback from a previous students:

“I was reminded of all the delicious ways “Blackness” shows up and to throw away the tapes that play We have to look/sound a certain way.”

“More than anything I appreciated the community aspect of the class. It was as much enriching and informative as it was validating and relaxing“

I hope you’ll join me before I sunset this class.

Y’all. I’m not good at manipulating the image, but just wanted to shout out about this news. Saw it just before entering the booth to record today. Dream Count is an Earphones award winner! It was an honor to be part of this project. Congrats to Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Read by and my co-narrators

And life continues. Keeping it real. I shared the positive about the Audie finalist nomination. Then I broke a household rule and looked at some reviews from Audiofile. A different book of mine received an overall positive review, but the reviewer dinged me for an aspect of my delivery. Now I’m in my booth recording and I can’t get the one negative comment out of my head. These words are on the wall of my booth and I have to keep repeating them.

So excited to share my collaborative work on One Big Open Sky is a finalist for an Audie.

Since 2017 at least one title I’ve (co)narrated has been a finalist for an Audie every year. And that 2017 finalist nomination was for Voice of Freedom w/Dreamscape. Excellence over time if I do say so myself.

Y’all. I was in a Zoom class abt marketing via social media the other day. I learned that in order to optimize social media and grow my connections I must 1. Make more posts. Interesting posts that folks like that aren’t trying to sell something. 2. Comment on other people’s posts. It’s not good enuf to just click the heart thingy.

In response I am posting 1. a photo of one of my cats, whom you cannot buy, even though she’s super cute. But also b/c…cat photo, which is the purpose of social media. 2. Said cat is demonstrating how energized I felt about doing what they told me to do to optimize social media.

BTW. This is Sophie. She doesn’t have an Instagram b/c…feline. No felines were harmed in the making of this post.
