Music after The PanDamnDemic !

Fifteen months after they last performed a live concert, Lynyrd Skynyrd returned to the stage on Friday to shake off the rust. The titans of Southern rock closed out Night One of the Pepsi Gulf Coast Jam, a country-leaning multi-day festival in Panama City Beach, Florida, that featured headlining sets by Brad Paisley and Luke Bryan.

A few years back I paid a visit to the famous “Big House” on Vineville Avenue in Macon, Georgia. Kirk and Kirsten West made me feel at home in this beautiful place, and I enjoyed every single moment I spent visiting. Even then, the house was beginning to become a museum. Kirk’s massive collection of Allman Brothers Band memorabilia adorned the walls, There were ABB road cases, guitars and more. I was just mesmerized by it all. You see, I am one of those long time (since 1972) devotees of the group that I have always cited as my number one favorite band, even above The Beatles and my home town boys, The Marshall Tucker Band.

Needless to say, I could hardly wait to view the new DVD Please Call Home: The Big House Years. I sat glued to the television as Gregg Allman, Butch Trucks, Jaimoe, Chuck Leavell, Linda Oakley, Red Dog and others led me through a history of the ABB’s early years at the Big House.

This picture is a picture of the picture at The Big House. Get your DVD 📀 in person at the gift shop, or I am sure it’s available online.

Should’ve shared this back in May. Well better now than never ever. Circa Spring 2015 I had a chance to talk with, and interview Steve who at the time had just arrived home, from a gig in Birmingham (Birminhim) UK. He was a pleasure in the richness of his history with Slade, among others, also his solo career. So today I say cheers mate. The link here will provide other informative tid bits I am sure I can not remember.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – University of Alabama Director of Athletics Greg Byrne announced Monday that head football coach Nick Saban and the University have agreed to a contract extension.

The new agreement will extend his current contract by three seasons to eight years and keep him in charge of the Crimson Tide football program through at least February 28, 2029. The base salary and talent fee of $8.425 million for the current contract year will increase annually throughout the length of the contract. There will also be a contract completion benefit of $800,000 payable at the end of the 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025 contract years.

"Terry and I are pleased and happy to sign another contract extension that will keep us in Tuscaloosa through the end of our career," Saban said. "Our family calls Tuscaloosa and the state of Alabama home, it's a place where our roots now run deep. This agreement gives us the chance to continue to impact the lives of the young men and their families who choose to play football and get an education at Alabama. We want to thank the Board of Trustees, Chancellor St. John, President Bell, Director of Athletics Greg Byrne, our athletics administration, the football staff and the whole University community for their support."

Keith Richards Shows Us How to Play the Blues, Inspired by Robert Johnson, on the Acoustic Guitar.

As Keith Richards tells it, the first time he met Brian Jones, the two “went around to his apartment crash-pad,” where all Jones had was “a chair, a record player, and a few records, one of which was Robert Johnson.” Jones put on the record, and the moment changed Richards’ life. He wasn’t so much interested in the devil at the crossroads. The first question he asked — “Who’s that?” — was followed by, “Yeah, but who’s the other guy playing with him? That, too, was Robert Johnson, playing rhythm with his thumb while bending and sliding with his fingers, the fancy guitar work that earned him the envy of fellow bluesmen, and led to the rumor his skills came from hell.

To me Robert Johnson’s influence — he was like a comet or a meteor that came along and, BOOM, suddenly he raised the ante, suddenly you just had to aim that much higher.

It’s been about eight years since we’ve heard any new recorded material from Hank Williams III, seven years since he toured last, and about that long since we’ve heard much of anything from the third generation performer aside from collaborating with DevilDriver on an Outlaw country tribute in 2018.

But late Monday evening (5-24), Hank3 surprised everyone by dropping a surprise cover of “You Never Even Called Me By My Name,” a.k.a. the “perfect country and Western song” made popular by David Allan Coe, and written by Steve Goodman and John Prine.

Releasing it solely on YouTube (see below), and addressing it simply as an “Outlaw Classic Country Cover, Played and Sang in real time no editing,” his haunting, slowed-down, and echo-rich version of the country classic clocks in at almost 7 minutes, and is being lapped up by thirsty and grateful Hank3 fans. No other explanation accompanies the release, but nobody’s complaining.

A couple of interesting notes about the song: Hank3 collaborated with David Allan Coe in 2013 on the 7-minute epic “The Outlaw Ways,” which is where the picture of the two of them together comes from.

Also, though the date has been disputed by some, May 24th is recognized as the day in 1971 when Steve Goodman and John Prine wrote “You Never Even Called Me By My Name” in a suite at New York’s Waldorf Astoria hotel after performer Paul Anka let the two hungry and up-and-coming songwriters stay there, and they raided the room’s liquor cabinet.

RIP ! Peter Edward "Ginger" Baker (19 August 1939 – 6 October 2019) was an English drummer and a co-founder of the rock band Cream.[1] His work in the 1960s earned him the reputation of "rock's first superstar drummer", while his individual style melded a jazz background with African rhythms. He is credited as having been a pioneer of drumming in such genres as jazz fusion and world music.[2]
