⛳ Summer on the Course with the Saturday WGA

Hot days, rainy days—and sometimes a little of both—couldn’t stop the Saturday WGA from enjoying another month of spirited competition!

From Three Clubs and a Putter at Great Waters to team matches at The National and a festive Christmas in July event at The Oconee, the summer season brought plenty of great golf and even better company. Congratulations to Sharon Gibson, Mary Ratelle, Neth Ann Schlitt, Jana Williams, Sonya Schreck, Janet Cordano, Pamela Romain, and all who joined in the fun!

This month’s Inside the Gates also shares golf rules and etiquette from Eric Fedus, Head Golf Professional at The Preserve Course, along with a look at the latest Fall 2026 ladies’ golf apparel trends.

📸 After the Sun Goes Down

When the Lake Country Photography Club challenged its members to capture the magic of nighttime, photographer Angela Lance found her inspiration among the bright lights of Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.

Her image, “Smoky Mountain Getaway,” captures the nostalgic excitement of an evening in the Smokies—from glowing attractions and carnival rides to the family memories made over corn dogs, homemade fudge, and soft-serve ice cream.

Captured during a December 2025 visit, Angela’s photograph pairs the final traces of sunset with the illuminated water sculpture in the foreground, creating a scene filled with color, energy, and a little bit of nostalgia.

Angela, who moved full-time to Georgia’s Lake Country with her husband Charles in 2024, has traveled around the world photographing landscapes and the natural beauty she encounters along the way.

🐾 A New Chapter for Lake Oconee Humane Society

Something special was unveiled at this year’s sold-out W**e, Wags & Whiskers fundraiser: an early look at a new home for Lake Oconee Humane Society.

Made possible by an extraordinary donation of land on Harmony Road in Eatonton, the proposed facility would more than double LOHS’s operational footprint and create a space designed to serve more animals, families, and communities throughout the region.

The need comes alongside incredible growth. In 2025 alone, LOHS adopted 285 animals, distributed more than 64,000 pounds of pet food to families in need, and performed more than 2,700 spay and neuter surgeries through its Shelter Medicine program.

With plans for improved animal housing, dedicated intake and quarantine areas, a separate medical clinic, and more efficient spaces for staff and volunteers, this vision is about more than a new building. It’s about creating a lasting legacy of compassion for generations to come. ❤️

⛳ A Perfect Swing for a Hole-in-One!

What are the odds? According to Golf Digest, approximately 150,000 hole-in-ones are made each year from an estimated 490 million rounds of golf—and Chuck Shaheen recently joined that impressive group!

It was a perfect day on the Richland Course at Reynolds Lake Oconee (Reynolds Lake Oconee) when Chuck stepped up to Hole #16 and sent his six-iron 202 yards straight into the cup for a hole-in-one. 🎯

Congratulations, Chuck, on a shot worth celebrating!

🎨🔬 Where Curiosity Leads the Way

Walk through the halls of Lake Oconee Academy, and you’ll find learning happening everywhere—kindergartners engineering creations from popsicle sticks, young artists experimenting with color and texture, and students working together to solve challenges.

At LOA, these moments of creativity and fun have a greater purpose. Through hands-on STEM and art experiences, students are encouraged to ask questions, test ideas, make mistakes, try again, and discover how subjects connect beyond the classroom.

From engineering challenges inspired by favorite books and history lessons to process art that gives students the freedom to express their own ideas, learning becomes an opportunity to build confidence, resilience, creativity, and critical-thinking skills.

As Lower School Art Teacher Ashley Llewellyn shares, success isn't simply about earning the highest grade. It’s about showing up ready to learn, asking thoughtful questions, trying something new, and doing your best each day.

This month, Stroll Inside the Gates spotlights Pionair Air Treatment System, an innovative air treatment system owned and operated by Lake Country residents Lisa and Bryan Cobb.

Using UVC light technology and negative ions, PIONAIR is designed to address odors, VOCs, mold, viruses, and allergens in indoor spaces—all without HEPA filters or the noise associated with traditional air purifiers. The system can treat up to 1,500 square feet and is made in the USA with technology inspired by innovations used in the Space Shuttle program.

What began in September 2014 as a 36-page publication has grown to consistently reach 120 pages, thanks to the incredible involvement of our neighbors, contributors, business partners, and readers. Today, STROLL Inside the Gates is the number-one STROLL magazine in the country based on content, advertisers, and readership among more than 800 publications produced by N2 Company. What an accomplishment for our Lake Oconee community! ❤️

Spring and summer were filled with meaningful moments for the Ladies of Great Waters! 🌸

From learning about the incredible work of Dr. Susan Usry and Plaza Arts Center to supporting Putnam Christian Outreach Inc through a community donation drive, and enjoying time together at Cocktails on the Deck and neighborhood happy hours, this season was all about connection, giving back, and welcoming new friends.
