Meet Matthew Lewis 🏈🎣

A recent LOA graduate with a knack for communication. “My favorite subject is Spanish because it allows me to communicate with more people”, he says. “Spanish class also gave me the opportunity to get my International Skills Diploma Seal (ISDS), which certified that I was prepared to engage in a global economy.” Matthew spends his free time with nature and neighborhood friends when he isn't volunteering for Vacation Bible School at Bethesda Baptist Church and participating in the Sheds of Hope Project at Lake Oconee Presbyterian Church. As the summer soon draws to a close, Matthew confronts the excitement of college. “My biggest motivation has always been the desire to take on new challenges and projects”, he asserts. “I’ll be attending Georgia Southern University this fall and majoring in Business Management. I plan on one day going into the healthcare industry as a medical device professional.” Matthew is on the right track to help impact the local community around him!

🦴 Jake is no ordinary Bichon Frise; he’s bigger, bouncier, and way more adventurous! After losing their beloved Nollie, the Goodwins welcomed Jake into their lives, and he’s been climbing, leaping, and exploring ever since.

The Lake Oconee Academy golf program proved its elite status this spring, twice. Both the girls' and boys' teams brought home GHSA Class A D2 state championships in a dominant fashion.

Leading the girls was junior Lili Nelson, who defended her individual state title with rounds of 69 and 74 at Bartram Trail Golf Club. She was named Player of the Year and will now guide her team to the July PGA National High School Invitational at Pinehurst Resort.

“This team is special,” Nelson said. “We push each other to be better, and the results speak for themselves.”

On the boys' side, Poli Medrano, a freshman, led the charge with a remarkable 64 on Day 2, securing second place individually and helping the team win by 44 strokes.

With no seniors on either roster, the future is incredibly bright for LOA Golf.

I can hardly believe we’re already halfway through 2025. After spending the Fourth of July surrounded by friends and family, I’ve reflected on how lucky we are to live in this beautiful, welcoming community.

Summer is my favorite time of year. Whether boating on Lake Oconee, reading by the pool, or hosting an impromptu BBQ, it reminds me how rich life here truly is.

As we welcome new neighbors and continue to grow, one of my personal goals is to connect with more of you, whether you’ve been here 20 years or just arrived. Have you taken a trip this summer? Thrown a party? Have a great family recipe or photo to share? I’d love to include it in an upcoming issue.
