Sun., Apr. 6

Come for dinner and stay for the show, as they say, when Nancy Gaddy takes the stage at Napoleon’s this Sunday evening. In time-honored, supper club style, Gaddy combines cabaret musical performance and comedic storytelling served up like a tasty aperitif.

Accompanied by pianist Andrew Fazackerley, Gaddy renders selections from the American songbook, jazz and swing classics and contemporary material. With a wink and a smile, she engages audiences with personal anecdotes and stories befitting the times -- and these are some times 😉. – Doug DeLoach

Event Description Nancy Gaddy is a dynamic force in the music world, renowned for her sassy and irreverent style that sets her show apart. With an infectious energy and a flair for the dramatic, she brings a fresh perspective to the music scene. Her show is a lively blend of humor, storytelling, and...

Truckadelic Birthday Bash

They say it’s Billy Rat’s 75th Birthday Bash, so I’m going with it and so should you. Naturally, the headliner is Truckadelic, the might-be-a-parody-country-rock-band with the best posters and t-shirts ever sold to humans and a songbook guaranteed to get your toes tappin’, knees knockin’ and face grinnin’ like a raccoon stealing treats from the back porch dog bowl.

Sharing the undercard are Bad Spell and Catfight!, two nitro-powered, psycho-garage, all-boy and all-girl rock bands, respectively, plus DJ Compact Deluxe, whose impressive vinyl collection is poised to thrill Star Bar birthday revelers between sets. – Doug DeLoach

St. Vincent, Tabernacle—Indie rock superstar (the snazzy word that gets bandied around is “multi-hyphenate”) Annie Clark has been pushing music’s boundaries, compositionally and instrumentally (as a badass guitar goddess), since her debut nearly two decades ago. A 2012 collaboration with David Byrne helped solidify her crossover appeal, but last year’s impressive All Born Screaming was a highlight of 2024 and arguably the artist’s finest work yet. It was followed by a similarly impressive reading of those songs sung in Spanish, as a gift to her fans in Mexico and Latin America. Rock, jazz, avant-garde, electronics, and even classical combine to create an artist who has just scratched the surface of her talents. Strongly recommended. — Hal Horowitz

Bella White, Eddie’s Attic—Canadian country chanteuse White connected with 2023s Among Other Things, earning well-deserved raves for her unaffected, emotional delivery, not far from that of Emmylou Harris or Linda Ronstadt. She arrives with a stripped-down two-piece backup for what is dubbed the Red Rhododendron Tour where she’ll combine music from that release along with cool covers from a recent 5 song EP, Five for Silver. Catch her now because the next time through, she’ll be playing a larger venue. — Hal Horowitz

CRITIC’S PICK
Fri., April 11

ZZ Ward, City Winery—Roots singer/songwriter Ward has historically pushed the soul/blues envelope. She covered Kendrick Lamar early on and, before he was a star, guested on her 2012 debut. She tours supporting the new Liberation release, a song cycle of sorts about being a mother of two while keeping her career afloat. It’s on the revived Sun label and features covers of some of that imprint’s classic hits such as Elvis’ “My Baby Left Me.” She also digs into credible versions of Elmore James’ classic “Dust My Broom” and Lowell Fulson’s “Sinner’s Prayer” and is a pretty great harmonica player too, making this the go-to destination for blues fans this evening. — Hal Horowitz

Born Zsuzsanna Eva Ward, ZZ Ward got her start performing alongside her musician father at the age of 12. Several years later, she decided to pursue a full-time music career and moved to Los Angeles to begin work on her debut album. After collaborating with Ryan Tedder and Fitz from Fitz and the Tan...

CRITIC’S PICK
Thurs., April 10

Squirrel Nut Zippers, City Winery—It has been nearly two decades since North Carolina’s retro swing/New Orleans traditionalists Zippers scored double platinum with their Hot album. The group’s membership has changed radically since, with only Jimbo Mathus the constant participant. It has also been five years since any new release but this retro music isn’t tied to any contemporary style, so their sound remains consistent regardless of who is in the current incarnation. It’ll be frisky, frothy fun as the horns kick up a 30s era party atmosphere which will challenge the dancers to find some space between the chairs at the Winery to let loose when they break into their biggest song, “Hell.” — Hal Horowitz

ABOUT City Winery Atlanta presents Squirrel Nut Zippers: Jazz From The Back live on Thursday, April 10th at 6:00pm, part of a 2 show series! See both shows here. The Squirrel Nut Zippers began their musical journey in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, in the mid 1990’s, as a musician’s escape from th...

Sun., April 6

Graham Nash, Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center—The still vibrant 83 year old ex-Hollies and CSN co-founder has a prolific solo career outside of those legendary acts, spanning decades to his 1971 debut. Of course he’ll play the “Our House”-era hits, and maybe a few from his Hollies’ days, but will also include tracks from 2023s Now. Previous shows have Nash singing over 20 songs and his always intriguing between tune stories are alone worth the price of admission. See a living legend summarize his career with class and professionalism gained through performing for over 60 years. — Hal Horowitz

Legendary artist Graham Nash, as a founding member of both the Hollies and Crosby, Stills and Nash, is a two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee. An extraordinary GRAMMY Award¼ winning Renaissance artist – and self-described “simple man” – Nash was inducted twice into the Songwriters H...

Sun. April 6

Walter Trout, City Winery—Blues rocking journeyman Trout has been through the trenches, both musical and otherwise (he survived a 2013 liver transplant that caused brain damage, causing him to relearn how to walk, talk and play guitar), but is a fighter (his 2024 album was titled Survivor Blues) who treats every day like a gift. He has released six albums since recovering with 2024s emotionally riveting Broken the most recent. Expect to hear tracks from that along with the fiery high-wire guitar gymnastics he’s known for. — Hal Horowitz

AboutCity Winery Atlanta presents Walter Trout live on April 6th at 8pm!Walter Trout’s latest album, Broken, reflects the turbulence of modern life while holding onto hope. Sat., April 5

Webb Wilder, Eddie’s Attic—He’s “the last of the full grown men” as Nashville’s chatty Web Wilder will inform you at every show. Currently a DJ at WMOT in Tennessee, Wilder usually sneaks away for a few dates a year to regale us with his raucous spirit of real rock and roll mixed with a few jiggers of country and blues, then energized with his baritone voice and witty asides. But in the past most of these appearances have been solo. This time he brings a full band to turn up the volume and inject some electric vibes into the roots rocking show. It’s an early start so maybe he’ll hang out and guest in Michelle Malone’s show which follows at 8PM.— Hal Horowitz

The Webb Wilder Band live at Eddie's Attic! Inducted into the Mississippi Musicians Hall of Fame Long before there were Kings of Leon, Keys of Black or Whites of Jack in Music City there was a riddle spewing prophet of roots rock and roll. A bluesy blast of baritone bombast. Equally versed in two gl...

Sat., April 5

Palmyra, Clover-Lynn, Vinyl—This indie rock/folk trio just released their Oh Boy label debut last week, so it’s likely very few attending will know the material . But they have been fine-tuning their performance for years, so expect a professional if somewhat ragged set highlighted by the member’s multi-instrumental talents and songs that have the languid flow of Southern music at its most emotional. Opener Clover-Lynn and her band, retreat to old-school country bluegrass of the Carter Family style, sung with remarkable authenticity yet a youthful edge, and an obvious love of the genre.— Hal Horowitz

Through Sun., Apr. 13
CRITIC’S PICK: The Gods of Comedy, Aurora Theatre - Ken Ludwig’s comedy covers the carnal complexity of college coeds, campus capers and conspicuous consumption, we are told. A long-lost manuscript by Euripides is found and then promptly lost again. Greek gods are summoned to save the day, compounding the problem further. Directed by David deVries, the tale tells of a hapless classics professor and his perturbed protĂ©gĂ© as they try to locate the errant palimpsest.

“The Gods of Comedy is my favorite kind of theatre; larger-than-life characters and brilliant humor,” says Aurora’s Artistic Director Ann-Carol Pence.” We are committed to telling stories that bring people together, and in a time when joy is more important than ever, Ken Ludwig is the perfect channel to lift spirits and celebrate the power of laughter.”

The cast features Brad Raymond (Dionysus), Kate Fahrner (Thalia), Alexandra Fi**en (Daphne), Chris Hampton (Ralph), Rachel Frawley (Zoe/Brooklyn), Suzanne Roush (Dean Marjorie Trickett) and Brennan Kelleher (Aristide/Aleksi/Ares). - Kevin C. Madigan

Playwright Ken Ludwig has penned many of the biggest comedic hits in Aurora Theatre history: Lend Me a Tenor, Moon Over Buffalo and The Fox on the Fairway. In this latest farce, Ralph, a young classics professor at a prestigious university finds a long-lost manuscript by Euripides, only for Daphne,....
