The moment you’ve been waiting for… your European residency card has finally arrived! 🇵🇹🎉
Well… almost.
Because sometimes the card doesn’t actually make it to your house. No knock. No delivery notice. No little piece of paper explaining where it went. Just a tracking update confidently declaring that your residency card has entered another dimension. 😂
So begins one final bureaucratic side quest: figuring out where the card went, getting an appointment with AIMA, going to the office to retrieve it—and potentially discovering that you’re expected to pay a fee for the unsuccessful delivery attempt you didn’t know happened.
After everything it takes to get residency, it almost feels appropriate that Portugal gives you one last administrative obstacle before handing over the prize. 🇵🇹
But when that card finally lands in your hand? Worth it.

My mom sent me a headline about "Spain being invaded." I had to tell her Ceuta isn't even in Europe. It's a Spanish city on the coast of Morocco.

First, real sympathy to the people in Ceuta and in Morocco actually living through this. It's a hard, complicated situation for real families, not a talking point.

But I live in Spain. Actual Spain. Nobody here thinks the country is under siege.

This is what happens when a local, complicated story gets flattened into a scary headline for people with zero context. Don't let a headline talk you out of a life you might really want. Go read the timeline yourself.

I went back to the States for 2 weeks and honestly forgot how much I missed some of this stuff 😅

Hot wings that actually burned. Free refills. A random Dairy Queen on the side of the road. A cold SweetWater 420 on a hot day.

Europe has a LOT going for it, but some things just ain't the same.

That said? I'll take the tradeoff every single time.

🇺🇸 Coming back to the U.S. after a year in Europe, I forgot one thing...
America doesn't celebrate the 4th of July... America puts on a production. 😂
The fireworks are bigger, the grills are hotter, and somehow every neighborhood has at least one person who spent their annual budget on explosives.
After experiencing holidays in Europe, it really made me appreciate how differently each culture celebrates. There's something special about seeing your home country through fresh eyes after spending time abroad.

Nobody warned me about this before moving to Europe! 🇪🇺
Turns out the hardest part of moving abroad isn't the visa or the paperwork — it's the unwritten stuff nobody tells you.
In Spain, walking into a shop without a greeting? Rude. Family and community come first, and relating through that is your way in.

After spending years in Europe, one of the first things I noticed when returning to the U.S. wasn't the roads, the stores, or even the portion sizes.
It was the water.
After getting used to clean, great-tasting tap water in my European city, the taste back home immediately stood out. It's funny how quickly something you use every day becomes noticeable once you've lived somewhere else.
Sometimes it's the little things that create the biggest culture shock.

Moving out of a house in Europe is easy.

Canceling the utilities? That's apparently a side quest with 14 missions, 3 phone calls, 2 forms, and a WhatsApp bot that refuses to acknowledge your existence. 😅

Nobody tells you that ending your electricity contract can be harder than moving countries.
