‘Black Panther’ Stars Discuss Devastating Loss Of Chadwick Boseman For ‘Wakanda Forever’

ust two years after Chadwick Boseman’s unexpected passing, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is here. Naturally this Black Panther sequel is a bittersweet arrival. Because the original defied the odds and made over a billion dollars—impressive even for the Marvel Cinematic Universe and especially for a film with a predominantly Black cast, Boseman’s T’Challa will eventually be recast. Right now, however, is just not the right time.

Wakanda Forever recognizes the magnitude of this great passing. As the first big screen manifestation of the comic book hero, Boseman balanced the duality of T’Challa and superhero. Prior to becoming the Black Panther, Boseman rose to fame by playing real-life Black American heroes, namely Jackie Robinson and James Brown.

“His loss was devastating,” Lupita Nyong’o, who plays Nakia, T’Challa’s love, shares. That loss made going into Black Panther: Wakanda Forever without him so off, she confesses. Director Ryan Coogler’s recognition of the magnitude of Boseman’s passing via T’Challa in Wakanda Forever really struck an emotional chord for Nyong’o and her castmates. It also changed their roles this time around.

Here, Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, who plays Okoye, and Letitia Wright, who plays Shuri, share those feelings as well as where some of their characters are now in the aftermath and Wakanda Forever ’s new additions.

Shaquille O’Neal Hosts Private Screening Of New HBO Documentary ‘SHAQ’

Shaquille O’Neal’s life and times is presented in the new HBO documentary, “SHAQ.” On Nov. 14, O’Neal hosted a private screening at Illuminarium in Atlanta.

Attendees at the event included O’Neal’s family, and his “Inside The NBA” co-stars Charles Barkley and Ernie Johnson.

Directed by Robert Alexander, the four-part docuseries takes an inside look at O’Neal’s life from Patterson, New Jersey to his super star status in the NBA.

The first episode delves into O’Neal’s family life and how he and his siblings where raised by his mother, Lucille O’Neal, and stepfather, Philip Harrison.

It also follows O’Neal’s early basketball struggles as an awkward youth who lacked the fundamentals to succeed at sports. His skill would eventually match his size by the time he reached his teenage years and led to him being the best high school player in the nation.

Following three years as a star at LSU, O’Neal would become the first pick in the NBA in 1992, becoming a larger than life sports figure.

The first episode chronicles his rise with the Orlando Magic, and ends with his new chapter with the Los Angeles Lakers.

“SHAQ” will debut on Nov. 23.

‘The Inspection’ Movie Review with Elegance Bratton

A Black Harvest Film Festival Feature. Producer and Writer, Elegance Bratton ’s self narrative fiction film debut, The Inspection , explores his journey as a young, gay Black man facing the adverse hardships of life and decides to join the Marines. The Inspection is a deeply moving story about the triumph and perseverance needed to not only make it through the grueling routines of basic Marine training, but the strength needed to maintain and value the beauty within one’s own identity.

“When I joined the Marine Core, after ten years of being homeless, I really thought I was worthless, that I had no value to the world,” Bratton explains. “I was fortunate to have a drill instructor say to me, ‘You are important. You matter because you have the ability to protect the person to your left and to your right.’”

Emmy and Tony nominated actor, Jeremy Pope, gives a jaw dropping performance as the lead character, Ellis French, who has an emotionally complicated relationship with his mother, played by Gabrielle Union-Wade, and struggles through the mental and physical pressures of proving himself to a sadistic sergeant, played by Bokeem Woodbine.

“French is a character that doesn’t give up on himself and doesn’t give up on the people who’ve wronged him,” said Bratton. “I want to show people, especially men in this world, that true strength lies in forgiveness. That’s where strength really comes from.”

Throughout the storyline French is ridiculed and outcasted into facing deep-seated prejudice of the system, his fellow Marine mates and sergeants alike for being gay. In the past few years America has seen a significant cultura...

Adebumola will take over as Malaika, an old lady at heart who is q***r and constantly comparing notes on life goals. And Parrish will play Owen, Nella’s family-oriented boyfriend of three years who works as a middle school principal.

Luenell: Brutally Honest and Beautifully Black

Comediennes are a special group, and women that make us laugh out loud – even when we’re alone – have a special talent. They bring it home for you in a way that you recognize and love, reminders of women we know and just gotta love for being so real and authentic.” Luenell is that “gotta love her” type of talent.

From the moment you see her and hear her, you know you haven’t been anywhere she hasn’t and you haven’t tried anything she hasn’t already. She takes you to that uproariously familiar spot that puts you in the mind of your most colorful relatives at a family get together.

Currently starring in the summer hit Block Party , Luenelle delivers a priceless performance as the neighborhood hairstylist, community confidante and social advisor on everything from your hair to your people.

In a recent interview following the release of the Juneteenth centered film, Luenelle shared funny and fascinating insights about the film, her career and the social cues she looks out for. The consummate comedian confesses she doesn’t quite remember how the role and her involvement in the film came about, but says it was an experience she’ll never regret.

“It was during corona and you know a lot of our minds went kind of foggy at the time. I don’t remember if I auditioned or if they just made me an offer. But of course the opportunity to work with Margaret Avery and Golden Brooks, it became a very loving set and we have long lasting friendships and relationships that came from that,” confides Luenelle. “And then the opportunity to to work in Grand Rapids, Michigan and make it more like Atlanta in taking ...

“I’m so excited about this film. You know being here today is so surreal. I’m just a fan of all of the other projects and the fact that I get to be a part of something like this. It’s amazing.”

The vocalist explained that her ongoing excitement about the live-action film comes with a downside.

“I definitely think that because I love this movie so much, and I’ve treasured it since I was a little girl, I did put a bit of pressure on myself,” the singer shared. “Just because I want to deliver all of the feels that I saw when I was a little girl.”

I love seeing the reviews of so many diverse films! I also loved the shout out to Isabella for winning the Black History Film Festival Student Video Competition! It is always great to see women in film whether it is in front of or behind the camera. I recently watched the 1993 film, Ruby in Paradise and was excited to share about its affirming messages regarding feminism and self-discovery. Writer/Director Victor Nunez presents Ruby as she is starting a new chapter in her life, living in a new state, trying to find a stable job, and working to become self-sufficient. Throughout her journey, Ruby is face with the trials and tribulations of love, loss, and loneliness. She is supported and encouraged by the women she encounters and it is great to see how she stays true to herself. I highly recommend watching for anyone who is interested for both entertainment and to review! I have left the link to the official trailer below!
