ATOKA COUNTY ELECTION RESULTS REPORTED FOR AUGUST 25 PRIMARY

ATOKA, Okla. (August 26, 2026) — Unofficial results released by the Oklahoma State Election Board show full voting returns across Atoka County following the August 25 primary elections. All 13 precincts within Atoka County have reported 100 percent of Election Day ballots.

In local and statewide Republican primary races, Atoka County voters departed from statewide totals in key contests while aligning on state questions.

Gubernatorial and Statewide Executive Primary Results

In the Republican primary for Governor, Atoka County voters favored Mike Mazzei, who secured 952 votes (59.13 percent) over Gentner Drummond's 658 votes (40.87 percent). Statewide, Mazzei narrowly won the primary with 186,678 total votes (50.28 percent) to Drummond's 184,631 votes (48.72 percent) across 1,984 precincts.

In the race for Superintendent of Public Instruction, Robert Franklin carried Atoka County with 826 votes (52.91 percent) to James Taylor’s 735 votes (47.09 percent). Franklin also claimed the statewide victory with 197,019 total votes (54.63 percent).

For Commissioner of Labor, Kevin West won Atoka County convincingly with 980 votes (64.22 percent) against John Pfeiffer’s 546 votes (35.78 percent). West also secured the statewide nomination, leading with 203,938 total votes (58.28 percent).

The Republican primary for Insurance Commissioner was decided by a tight margin locally. Bob Sullivan narrowly edged out Marty L. Quinn in Atoka County, securing 768 votes (50.20 percent) to Quinn’s 762 votes (49.80 percent). Statewide, Sullivan took the primary with 194,922 total votes over Quinn's 158,627 votes (44.87 percent).

Legislative and U.S. Senate Primary Races

In the Republican primary for State Representative District 19, Atoka County’s two precincts favored Anthony DeVore, who received 104 votes (50.73 percent) to Michael A. Brittingham’s 101 votes (49.27 percent). However, Brittingham won the overall district race across all 37 precincts statewide with 2,340 total votes (61.24 percent).

In the Democratic primary for United States Senator, Atoka County voters selected Jim Priest over N'Kiyla Jasmine Thomas. Priest garnered 173 local votes (60.92 percent) to Thomas’s 111 votes (39.08 percent). Statewide, Thomas won the Democratic nomination with 79,201 total votes (61.19 percent) compared to Priest's 50,238 total votes (38.81 percent).

State Questions and Legislative Referendums

Atoka County voters strongly rejected State Question No. 844 (Legislative Referendum No. 378), casting 1,397 votes against (72.38 percent) and 533 votes in favor (27.62 percent). Statewide results mirrored local sentiment, with 389,735 voters (73.75 percent) defeating the proposal.

On State Question No. 846 (Legislative Referendum No. 380), Atoka County voters overwhelmingly approved the measure with 1,407 votes in favor (70.77 percent) to 581 votes against (29.23 percent). The referendum passed statewide with 292,481 votes in favor (54.61 percent) against 243,064 votes opposed (45.39 percent).

VEHICLE FIRE CHECK REPORTED NORTH OF LIMESTONE GAP

STRINGTOWN, Okla. (August 26, 2026) — Atoka County dispatch advised the Stringtown Volunteer Fire Department at 08:39 today of a report of a vehicle fire on U.S. Highway 69 northbound, just north of North 5 Mile Road.

According to dispatch, the incident involved a truck being towed behind a recreational vehicle, located approximately two miles north of Limestone Gap. The reporting party indicated that the fire had been extinguished but requested fire department personnel to inspect the vehicle on scene to ensure it was completely safe.

Motorists in the area should be aware of first responders and avoid interfering with emergency operations.

BUCK CREEK FIRE PROMPTS SMOKE ADVISORY ACROSS ATOKA COUNTY

DAISY, Okla. (August 25, 2026) — Personnel from the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Food and Forestry are actively battling a growing wildfire in neighboring Pushmataha County, south of Daisy, that is driving heavy smoke and ash across Atoka County.

Buck Creek Fire

According to a statement released today by the Daisy Volunteer Fire Department, the Buck Creek Fire was first reported on Sunday, August 23, at approximately 12:45 p.m. As of 9:39 a.m. today, official tracking data indicates the wildland fire has burned approximately 260 acres and is 10 percent contained.

Fire crews and state forestry personnel remain on scene working to establish containment lines amidst ongoing extreme heat and dry fuels.

County-Wide Smoke Advisory

Local officials issued a regional advisory today as shifting winds transport smoke, haze, and ash from the Buck Creek Fire into Atoka County. Residents throughout the area may experience strong smoke odors, hazy skies, and reduced visibility.

Health officials advise residents, particularly children, older adults, and individuals with respiratory or heart conditions, to limit prolonged outdoor exertion, keep windows and doors closed, and run air conditioning units on recirculation mode.

Fire Danger and Emergency Regulations

The widespread smoke comes as Atoka County remains under an official 14-day county-wide burn ban enacted by the Board of County Commissioners on August 24 under Resolution No. 26-049. All outdoor burning remains strictly prohibited.

Drivers encountering reduced visibility due to drifting smoke are urged to slow down, turn on headlights, and proceed with extreme caution.

STRINGTOWN, Okla. (August 25, 2026) — Atoka County dispatch advised the Stringtown Volunteer Fire Department at 10:38 today of a report of a possible grass fire east of North Kelly Creek Road, approximately 1 mile southeast of the old Redden School.

According to dispatch, the reporting party observed heavy smoke in the area, though no active flames were visible at the time of the call.

STRINGTOWN, Okla. (August 24, 2026) — Atoka County dispatch advised the Stringtown, Wardville, and Daisy Fire Departments at 17:56 today of a fire reported near the intersection of Lake Shore Drive and Lake Road in Stringtown.

According to dispatch traffic, the incident was located approximately 0.5 miles down Lake Shore Drive in the area behind Southeastern Truck and Trailer Parts at the site of a former ma*****na grow operation. Responding units requested a Forestry ranger to assist at the scene.

At 18:13, dispatch advised the Wardville and Daisy fire departments that they could discontinue their response.

LANE, Okla. (August 24, 2026) — Atoka County dispatch advised the Lane Fire Department at 15:15 today of a medical emergency at the Lane Lakeway Stop convenience store, located on State Highway 3 East in Lane.

According to dispatch, an Atoka County Sheriff's deputy was on scene at the time and reported an adult male possibly suffering from heat stroke.

DAISY, Okla. (August 24, 2026) — Atoka County dispatch advised the Daisy Fire Department at 18:21 yesterday of a report of a single-vehicle accident involving a deer on State Highway 43 East.

According to dispatch, the incident occurred near the intersection with Baxter Drive, approximately five miles east of the junction of State Highway 43 East and the Indian Nation Turnpike.

LOST HIKERS RESCUED IN MCGEE CREEK NATIONAL SCENIC AREA

FARRIS, Okla. (August 24, 2026) — Emergency responders successfully located and rescued two lost hikers on the north end of Centerpoint Road in the McGee Creek National Scenic Area on Sunday evening.

At 17:35 on August 23, Atoka County dispatch advised the Farris Fire Department of a search and rescue operation for a missing male and female, specifically requesting assistance with UTVs. At 17:39, dispatch paged the Harmony Fire Department and Crystal Fire Department to assist with the search effort.

According to an update from Atoka County E911, the two individuals became turned around and lost while on the trails. They maintained sufficient cell service to dial 911, allowing dispatchers to obtain a location ping from their device. Following instructions from dispatch, the hikers remained in place, allowing responders to navigate directly to their location.

At 18:20, dispatch advised all responding units they could discontinue their response as the hikers had been reached safely.

The coordinated multi-agency response included a McGee Creek Park Ranger, an Oklahoma State Game Warden, the Atoka County Sheriff’s Office, Farris Fire Department, Crystal Fire Department, Harmony Fire Department, Bentley Fire Department, City of Atoka Emergency Management, and Atoka County Emergency Management.

ATOKA COUNTY ISSUES COUNTY-WIDE BURN BAN FOLLOWING MULTIPLE SUNDAY FIRES

ATOKA, Okla. (August 24, 2026) — Effective August 24, the Atoka County Board of County Commissioners has enacted Resolution No. 26-049, placing the entire county under a strict burn ban for up to 14 days due to extreme fire danger and persistent dry conditions.

Approved by Commission Chairman Spike Eayes, Vice Chairman Ethan Settlemire, and Member Jesse Dunlap, the resolution makes it unlawful to set fire to any forest, grass, range, crop, or wildlands, or to build outdoor campfires, bonfires, or burn trash. Violators face misdemeanor charges punishable by up to a $500 fine, up to one year in prison, or both. Exemption guidelines allow outdoor gas and charcoal grills, gas fire pits, smokers, and small fire pits (3'x3' or smaller), while welding and cutting torch operations require fire-retardant blankets, cleared work zones, and pressurized water sources on standby.

The county-wide ban follows a series of emergency dispatch calls answered by local volunteer departments on Sunday, August 23.

Buffalo Creek Road Fire

At 10:18 a.m., Atoka County dispatch paged the Harmony Fire Department to a report of a hay baler and round bales on fire at the north end of Buffalo Creek Road, approximately four miles northeast of Harmony. At 10:30 a.m., dispatch paged the Atoka Fire Department to assist Harmony with the spreading baler and brush fire.

West Highway 43 Brush Fire

At 11:25 a.m., Atoka County dispatch advised the Stringtown Fire Department of a brush fire threatening a residence on West Highway 43 near Atoka Reservoir, located on the north side of the road approximately three miles west of U.S. Highway 69.

South Park Lane Structure Fire

At 4:11 p.m., Atoka County dispatch paged the Hopewell Fire Department and the Wilson Fire Department to a structure fire involving a shop building on South Park Lane, approximately one mile northwest of Boggy Depot Park.

Officials have urged all residents to adhere strictly to the burn ban guidelines to protect local homes, lands, and emergency crews.

STRINGTOWN, Okla. (August 23, 2026) — Atoka County dispatch advised the Stringtown Fire Department at 11:25 today of a report of a brush fire threatening a residence off State Highway 43 West.

According to dispatch, the location was described as approximately 3.5 miles west of the intersection of U.S. Highway 69 and State Highway 43 West on the north side of the highway.

Motorists in the area should be aware of first responders and avoid interfering with emergency operations.
