Look at this girl make a wish. I watched her intentionally slow down when the birthday song was over, take her time, then blow the candles out. She is magic, with a heart full of kindness, looking for ways to spread joy, and a mind full of wonder, asking questions about the universe that we ponder together.
Thank you for choosing me to be on this journey with you. Happy biryhday, my love!

I don’t think I realized this picture existed even though it lived in my photo album. As I searched for a picture to post for my moms’s birthday, I came across this perfect depiction of my mother’s ease. She delighted in simple things and was truly joyful when given even the smallest gift. If it came from the heart, she absolutely loved it and whoever it came from.

I hope to emulate this joy and continue to shine her light to those around me.

Mom, happy heavenly birthday. I know you’re close. I feel you. And I also miss your voice and your squish-me hugs. All my love always and forever 🪽💜🎂

I did a thing y’all! I’m a new member of the board of directors for the Austin nonprofit SAFE where I plan to continue to use my voice, my experience, and my drive to support this great organization. They were there for me and I’m so happy to be giving back to them!

I woke up to a slew of congratulatory texts and emails and I thought “Wow. I did it”.

I’ll back up to the beginning:

My team: here’s what you gotta do to be successful.
My coaches: what do you need?
My friends: we’re so proud of you!
My ethereal parents: *insert heavenly signs*
Me: waffling…you’re a bad ass! Who do you think you are? I’ve got this! No you f’n don’t.

So today I say to those hurt parts inside trying to keep me small and keep me safe, thank you. But look what I’ve done. I’m actually stronger and smarter and savvier than I knew and well, here we go! 💫

One year ago, we said goodbye.
Today, as I attempted to both feel everything and detach completely, I just allowed myself to miss you. I miss the way you held your purse. The way you sat on the couch. The way you made your coffee. I miss that your feelings always showed on your face (even when you didn’t mean to). I miss how you held my children and the way you said “come here, baby” whenever I needed a hug.

Your passing stopped a part of time for me, keeping you simultaneously far away and formless and right here beside me in ways my human senses could detect. You were my mother, my vessel into this lifetime, my best friend from day one.
And today, as time stands still and 365 days feels like 10 minutes or 50 years, we held you close. We toasted you. We saw peacocks. We delighted in lime green. We decorated cakes in true Nailed It fashion. We said I love you. We listened and understood. Today, like everyday, we acted as you would have, with kindness and unconditional love.

You left, but the abuse continued.

You thought the hard part was behind you when you left. But if you're like the survivors of domestic violence and narcissistic abuse that I've worked with over the past 13 years, after leaving, it got worse.
