Why the film is in Portugués?
Lester: “The story was inspired by the live version of the song “Conselho” by , originally from Almir Guineto, is a beautiful melody that talks about overcoming heartbreak and not being alone, so I thought it would be nice to create a story surrounding that melody, I thought about a teenager who’s best friend visits her when she’s down, randomly plays that song in specific, and the melody transports the teenager to her childhood in the arms of her mother, who used to lullaby her that exact same song, so it brings an immense sense of comfort to her. Director Peter Longno took the story beyond what I had in mind expanding the visuals to something incredible.
To honor the song and its roots, I wanted the dialogue to be in Portugués, so I had to sharpen the little Portugués I knew, I wanted to keep it minimal and more emotional, letting the music be a huge part of the story.
