for a long time, i think i subconsciously measured how good of a teacher i was by how much i was willing to give.

stay late.
bring work home.
spend my own money.
skip my lunch.
answer the email.
say yes.
take on one more thing.
give the job whatever it asked for.

& we praise teachers for this ALL. THE. TIME.

“she would do anything for her kids.”
“he’s always the first one here & the last one to leave.”
“she gives 110%.”

but i don’t think that’s the kind of teacher i aspire to be anymore.

i’m much more impressed by the teacher who does incredible work & still goes home.

who cares deeply about their students without carrying the weight of every single thing they cannot fix.

who can say “that’s enough for today” even when there will always be more to do.

who has hobbies. relationships. boundaries. a whole entire life that has nothing to do with school.

because i don’t want to give everything i have to this job anymore.

i want to be a really good teacher & still have plenty of me left when i go home.🤦🏽‍♀️✨🎥Credit to : karyn_bigelow on Instagram❤️‍🔥 Follow Rockstar Teachers Vibes for classroom ideas, practical teaching tips, and honest stories about the real side of teaching!
