I’m 20 years old, and I’m a police officer. That night, I went on a date with a 45-year-old man. At first, he seemed confident, mature, and respectful… until he asked what I do for work. “A police officer?” he said, staring at me like I’d said something wrong.
I smiled and told him how hard I worked to earn my badge, how proud I am every time I put on my uniform. But instead of respecting it, he leaned back and said: “At your age, you should be focused on being a woman, not doing a man’s job.
I want someone who stays home.” Then he tossed money on the table and walked away without another word. For a moment, I just sat there in silence, letting his words sink in. But then I remembered the long nights, the sacrifices, the people I’ve helped, and every time someone thanked me for being there when they needed help most.
And I realized something: A strong woman will always intimidate the wrong man. So I stood up, fixed my uniform, and walked out with my head held high. Because yes, I’m young. But I’m also brave, independent, and proud of the life I’ve built for myself. And one day, the right person will admire that instead of trying to make me feel small.
