ANNOUNCING MY RETIREMENT FROM K*T/K*TX RADIO & THE HORIZONTES AND GLOBAL GROOVES PROGRAMS

As I approach the tender age of 70 years and after 35 years of producing and hosting Horizontes, Music of Latin America and 18 years of Global Grooves on K*T-FM and K*TX-FM, I have decided to retire from radio. It is not an easy decision as I am still passionate about the music and cultures from which the music I play comes but I know it’s time to let someone younger take the reigns.

Many thanks to the management and staff who have been supportive of me and the programs over the years and especially to the listeners in Austin and beyond who have supported me with their listenership, kind words and, of course, donations to listener-supported public radio in Austin.

In saying farewell at the end of June, I am presenting a retrospective of both the Horizontes, Music of Latin America on K*TX-98.9FM Austin and Global Grooves, World Music on K*TX 98.9 Austin by playing music from five decades of Latin and World music programming on K*T/K*TX on the five Sundays of June. You’ll hear songs played by former hosts John Wheat, Lina Del Roble, and Mike Quinn on Horizontes from the years before I became the host in 1989 and many of my favorites since then. You’ll also hear songs played by former World Music hosts Dan Del Santo, Angela Miller and Hayes McCauley as well as my favorites from when Global Grooves debuted in 2006.
