The world's first android or programmed automatic was in 1774 during the reign of Louis XVI, the Swiss watchmaker Pierre Jacques Dro created this engineering prodigy.
At plain sight, "The Writing Boy" looks like an old toy: a wooden doll with a porcelain head, barefoot, and with a goose feather in hand. However, inside this doll lies a technological marvel: 6,000 mobile pieces operate a writing mechanism that turns the "child" into the world's first automatic calligrapher.
Developed in 20 months of hard work by Pierre Jacques Dro, "The Writing Boy" writes his first sentence: "My inventor is Jacques Dro." The presentation in Paris in 1774 left King Louis XVI's court speechless.
