On this day 24 years ago, over 300 search and rescue dogs across North America were deployed to New York City. These dogs, alongside their supportive human handlers, worked in 12-hour shifts.

During the dogs’ downtime, their handlers noticed they were natural therapy dogs. They provided comfort and support to the first responders at Ground Zero.

Today, we honor their service and remember the healing presence animals bring in our most difficult moments. 💙

🎉🐾 Happy 6th Birthday to our amazing fur baby, Dak! 🐶🎂

Dakota, the rescue Berner with a housing history more complicated than a New York City apartment, has turned six today! He joined our family in 2019, weighing in at a svelte 85 pounds and "zero" social skills.

Back then, he didn't even know how to wag his tail or drink water, but now he's the fastest runner we've ever seen and as graceful as a galloping horse!

Dak has become a creature of habit, needing an exit strategy from every room, and he only barks at new people some of the time.

But most importantly, he's the best berner snuggle we've ever had in the family!

Happy Birthday, kiddo!

Many met Briggs, the 130-pound Bernese Mountain Dog with a resume that even human job applicants would envy! He was part of not one, but two registered therapy animal teams, and he had a complex rating to prove it. Berner Adventures started in 2006 with Copeland's "Riley" leading the way. But don't be fooled, Briggs took over the reins of pet therapy like a true professional when he was born on June 7, 2013.

This dog was so dedicated to his job that he practically had an office at Dell Children's Medical Center, where he served and visited children with the precision of a seasoned therapist.

Whether he was making official visits or simply chilling with his family, Briggs was the epitome of a gentle, calm, and tolerant dog. He didn't just like being with his family; he thrived on it!

Now, let's not forget about Dak, or should we say, Dakota, the rescue Berner with a more complicated housing history than a New York City apartment. This sweet boy, born on January 16, 2018, weighed in at a svelte 85 pounds when he joined our family.

It seems like Briggs and Dak made quite the dynamic duo, proving that even in the world of therapy animals, teamwork makes the dream work! Briggs passed away in August of 2023.

Time will tell if Dak can carry on.
