When I look at you all my grandchildren, big one & little ones ,
The world slows down,
And time—
That thief that steals so much—
Gives something back.
Your fingers curl like mine once did,
Your breath, a whisper of heaven’s hush.
In your eyes, I see echoes
Of all who came before—
And the wonder of all that’s to come.
I’ve counted years in wrinkles and wisdom,
Watched seasons change my name—
From child to parent,
From parent to grand.
But in your smile,
Every chapter finds its purpose.
You are love I didn’t know I still had waiting,
A softness I thought time had worn thin.
But here you are,
Filling rooms with laughter not yet learned,
And quieting fears I never spoke aloud.
What is time, but a gift we pass on?
What is love, but the thread
That ties generations hand in hand?
When I look at you,
I see more than a child.
I see a legacy.
A promise.
A prayer answered.
And I am undone
By the beauty of beginnings
Held in the arms of an ending
That still has so much to give.
