On March 24, 48-year-old Jermaine Jones exercised his right to a speedy trial before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge LaZette Ringgold-Kirksey after the state requested a postponement. Jones is charged with first- and second-degree assault and various firearm-related offenses for a non-fatal shooting incident on Aug. 30, 2024. The case, which was originally scheduled as a jury trial, was delayed due to the prosecution’s involvement in another trial. Defense attorney Louis Guth emphasized Jones’ right to a speedy trial and objected to the request.

Sentencing was delayed for a 48-year-old man charged with shooting two teenage victims. Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Yvette M. Bryant presided over the hearing. Nadeem Tajdin’s case was previously postponed on Jan. 8 after he became ill, apparently suffering from severe medical issues.
Defense attorney Rodney Gray requested the postponement to get the defendant’s medical records. The prosecutor had no objection and informed the court that she received the relevant medical records the morning of the hearing. Judge Bryant said she would consider Tajdin’s situation and postponed the sentencing to May 7.

Hong granted attempted second-degree murder defendant Mekhi Green a sentence of 25 years in prison, five years short of the minimum required sentence for his crimes. “Because you selected a jury trial and those 12 jurors found you guilty, I have to give you the higher sentence because the higher court will send it right back,” she informed Green. “I have to sentence you to what the jury found you guilty of.”

Defendant Cites Responsibilities ‘As a Father’ in Probation Request: During a disposition hearing on Feb. 26, Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Lawrence P. Fletcher-Hill granted 39-year-old Kenneth Ellis probation in connection to a Nov. 17. 2023 non-fatal shooting involving two tow truck employees. Cole said that one month before Ellis’ disposition hearing, his 15-year-old son had suffered an injury, which led to a Child Protective Services (CPS) investigation and caused the teenager’s mother to lose custody. “Me as a father, I have to do what I have to do,” he said. Ellis said he plans to file a motion for custody of his son, as well as for his 9-year-old son who remains in the mother’s custody. Judge Fletcher-Hill recommended three years of supervised probation, as Ellis has already fulfilled the condition of completing anger management classes.Ellis was ordered to report to BPD to sign under the Gun Offenders Registry. His probation officially began following the conclusion of the disposition hearing.
