In honor of , we're sharing Laura’s story. After losing her daughter to embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma - a malignant soft tissue tumor - Laura found comfort and support through the Casey Cares Foundation, an organization that provides ongoing programs to critically ill children and their families in the Baltimore area.
Last year, we sat down with Laura to share her family's experience with Casey Cares, and how she is keeping her daughter’s memory alive. Let's honor Laura and the countless other women and families who have faced adversity with grace and courage. Together, we can continue to support organizations like Casey Cares and make a difference in the lives of families who need it most.
Happy !
We have had the pleasure of partnering with Pati Jinich on two shows and multiple brand web series as she cooks her way through Mexico. Check out the preview of La Frontera’s Season 2 on PBS and learn about the woman behind the recipes on our blog:

We’re always awestruck when members of our team pursue their passion projects to make films while they’re off the ELM clock.
Last year, our producer Julia Reihs made a documentary with her friend LiLi about four women of color who used their art to reflect on the realities of 2020. “We Are Here Too” will screen at the SR Socially Relevant Film Festival New York on Monday, March 20th at 5:30 PM. The film will be available online and on the festival’s website after the screening.
Congratulations, Julia! Check out the trailer here: vimeo.com/650700136

Please tune in tonight to Discovery + to watch our latest documentary for the Magnolia Network - Hi, I’m Hakki Akdeniz. You might remember we recently distributed our film R.A.W. Tuba to Magnolia to be part of their Hi, I’m … anthology series. They brought us on to produce another episode and this time it’s with another incredible human that we feel grateful to know.
Hakki Akdeniz is a turkish immigrant who came to the US with almost nothing. He’s worked his way up to being the pizza mogul of NYC and won a world championship pizza tossing competition on his way to the top.
He’s also one of the kindest, warmest people you’ll ever meet and gives so much to the needy in NYC, including hundreds of boxes of pizza a week. Thank you for letting us tell your story Hakki! Check out the NY Post article about Hakki and the film. https://nypost.com/2022/12/14/hakki-akdeniz-of-champion-pizza-featured-in-discovery-documentary/ Hakki Akdeniz Magnolia Network
Wow, hard to believe another year is just about in the books. Last night we celebrated the holidays and the year with our amazing team who have absolutely crushed it this year. We have produced 9 hours of television for three shows on two networks. Multiple documentaries for huge brands doing good things in the world. Hours of Storytelling content for some of our local nonprofit partners whom we’ve been working with for years. And so much more. We’ve done it in live action and animated. We’ve traveled the world three times over, filming from the air, boats, motorcycles, the mountains, all over the US and Mexico. And every person on our team has risen to the challenge and continues to everyday. Cheers to you guys and buckle up for 2023 🎥✈️🤘

We are so humbled to announce that we took home 5 Addy awards this year from the AAF Baltimore - AAFB. But the one we're most proud of is the Mosaic Award for our work with Healthcare for the Homeless. We work really hard as a team to focus on stories and partnerships that give power to the voices that need it most and the Mosaic Award honors companies and individuals who embody the Mosaic Principles—an action-oriented roadmap to create a more inclusive industry. Mosaic Award recipients display their commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through creative work, advocacy, and company-wide initiatives.
Of course, we did very little. Healthcare for the Homeless and Qyashiny Robinson are the ones who deserve this honor the most. HFTH is doing incredible and necessary work in Baltimore and Qyashiny, the subject of our film, is a true inspiration. Thank you so much.
We also won 4 other awards that we're very proud of including 2 Golds and 2 Silvers for our film with RevZilla and We Went Fast "Little Giant" as well as a film about the COVID fight with the Charles County Health Dept called "A County Against COVID."
All of these were big team efforts but want to send a little extra love to our awesome editor Rebecca McCutcheon for winning the Silver Award for editing "Little Giant."
The Gold awards now move on to Regional and national competitions. Congrats to all the other winners and nominees for doing great work in our esteemed city.
We got some really nice client reviews from our work in 2021. Onward to the future!

Our latest film collaboration “Little Giant: The PW50 Story” is now available for free streaming on RevZilla’s YouTube channel.
The film follows journalist Brett Smith as he shares his love of motorcycling with his daughter by rebuilding his original 1981 PW50 and teaching her to ride it.
For the last 4 decades, the Yamaha PW50 has been a legend in the backyards of future motocross champions, Dakar winners, and backwoods warriors alike. Ricky Carmichael, Ryan Villopoto, Becca Sheets, Cory Texter, and Cooper Webb share how the fabled PW50 helped to shape their careers and the world of motorcycling. Chances are, you or someone you know were amongst the millions who had a PW50 spark their passion for two wheels.
It was a pleasure to work with Brett, Revzilla and our team to bring this project to life.

Just in time for your Friday night party! Finally, you can just listen to this song "Brothers for Life" that we recorded with Richard Antoine White and his brother William Smith. Fun fact, we filmed the scene of these guys recording a song together for the documentary RAW Tuba and Will freestyled this entire version in one take! And we know he didn't write it beforehand because right before we recorded we gave him some topics and he just spit it out like a master. Time for Baltimore to get bumpin' (Ear muffs if you have little ones around. It's explicit.)

Today marks 7 years that Early Light Media has existed. It’s hard to believe how we have evolved. We couldn’t be more proud of the company we have become and the direction in which we have pointed the bow of the ship. That direction is our purpose. Our purpose is simply to be a messenger for companies and causes we believe in through moving pictures. We’ve accomplished more than we ever dreamed possible in these 7 years. We’ve made films, national ads, traveled the globe and, in our beautiful backyard, filmed on almost every street in Baltimore telling stories for non-profits and making eye-catching commercials for conscious companies. But you know what we’re most proud of? Our relationships. Many of you started working with us in our first year and continue to work with us today. This is a (:15) video is to say “thank you” to all our family members, employees, clients, freelancers, friends, partners, colleagues, mentors, and the many, many humans who have helped us be all that we are in this 7 year journey. All that we are? What are we? Flawed. We’re just people. Like the beautiful humans in so many of the stories that we tell, we cry. We stress. We repress emotion, only to have it bubble up at inconvenient times as tears, anger, or passive aggressiveness. We work hard and sometimes fail. We parent hard and sometimes fail. We friend hard and sometimes fail. We communicate hard and sometimes fail. In a much needed moment of levity, we laugh a little too hard during a zoom meeting and that snot bubble rests on the end of the nose for just a second too long and it’s awkward (and we fail). Running a business is hard. Sometimes we just want to unleash our inner artist and rebel at the “process.” Sometimes we have to be incredibly disciplined about our approach to finances. And just when we think we know what we're doing, everything changes (it's the only constant). The market changes. Challenges with clients or employees change. Wait, a global pandemic?
Three weeks into this #alonetogether madness, we thought you could use a fun video on this friday to lighten the mood. So pop open a beer or a bottled water (whatever is getting you through) and enjoy this little video we put together just for you. If you remember a few days ago we put out a call for entries for anyone willing to share some video from their home during this chaos. There's so much pressure to use this time to be more productive and creative however it's harder than ever to do that. So this is what we made. Thank you for everyone who helped us out. We enjoyed making this. Click on the image to enjoy the video 🙂 #alonetogether
"It's not about how many seconds are left, but what you do with them that counts." - Seconds Matter / #wewill After you watch this video we recently produced with Weber Shandwick for Under Armour, it won't be any surprise to you that the company has jumped in the race to help right now where it's needed most. In fact, they've been helping all along wherever they can. We're in awe of how our partners have been jumping in the fight. UA has now pledged $1 MILLION DONATION TO FEEDING AMERICA. $1 MILLION 30-DAY FITNESS CHALLENGE SUPPORTING GOOD SPORTS. Now they've begun to manufacture and assemble face masks, face shields and specially equipped fanny packs, and is also exploring fabricating hospital gowns for the statewide medical system. Our team collaborated with Weber Shandwick to produce this Addy Award-winning spot for Under Armour just a couple months ago (which feels like a lifetime after all the isolation). The purpose of this spot was to highlight all of the incredible programs and community work that Under Armour is doing around the country. #comeback #covid19 #covid_19 #underarmour #secondsmatter #inspiration #baltimore #charmcity #videoproduction #videomarketing #makingadifference

The world needs to be sending out a message of love & hope right now. This moment brought to you by our lead animator @ezrapailer. Crazy story, we hired Ezra weeks before this happened and he started Monday. Yeah, the day that stuff started really going nutz. We onboarded him in a couple hours and he’s already jumping into action for our clients, even delivering a kickass short spot to a client on Friday. Yeah, he started this Monday, as in two days ago. He’s a brilliant human, illustrator, and storyteller. And now, along with our team, he’ll be continuing ELM’s tradition of “Capturing The Human Experience” through animation, an important medium we will be using to help our clients through this crisis. For this #TBT, we wanted to share a video from a few years ago with Annie E. Casey Foundation . The San Antonio Express-News just came out with a great article (unfortunatley behind a pay wall) on the importance of childhood education to combat poverty and it reminded us of the incredible work that Annie E. Casey Foundation is doing to help the EastPoint Neighborhood in San Antonio thrive as a community. We were lucky enough to spend some time there and meet the wonderful people that make up the community. Check out the article, too! https://www.expressnews.com/opinion/editorials/article/Editorial-Early-education-best-poverty-fighting-14515752.php
We got to work with a special Baltimorean about a year ago to help the BMA create awareness for their new show featuring the work of movie legend John Waters. Needless to say, he hit his mark, nailed his lines, and we didn't have to do much directing at all. Many fascinating people have been on the other side of our lens, but this one was especially fun. We came across this gem and it reminded us to let you know that the BMA is having another show right now. This one features the work of many artists who are extraordinarily important to our culture and the art canon. Go to the BMA from today until January 19th to see "Generations: A History of Black Abstract Art." And when you're there, check out the accompanying videos with the artists for more context on their lives, process, and thoughts about the evolution of their art.
For this #tbt, we wanted to highlight a commercial we directed last year for an important product that's helping people breath again. This was a national spot for a brand awareness campaign for Astra Zeneca. It was true joy to work with incredlbly talented creatives, production companies, cast and crew. We learned so much from these teams and had a ton of fun filmming in beautiful Vancouver. An enormous amount of work goes into even a simple creative like this. Copywriters working to the last minute due to ton of legal approvals, building sets out of nothing, changing counter tops in homes, green screens and graphics. Let's get started on the next big project and please get that parasitic infection checked out before taking Fasenra. We're serious about that. During September, we've been highlighting incredible non-profits we've worked with over the years and one of them has saved thousands of lives and is the most important trauma center on the east coast, if not the country: University of Maryland, Shock Trauma Center. Through Maribeth Cox-Livingston, we've had the honor to produce documentary content each year for their live gala in which they honor the dozens of staff involved in saving each life. The event gives you goosebumps. For this #TBT, check out the opening :30 second bumper from 2015 we built to open the event. That year we also produced 20 minutes of documentary content. Thank you Livingston Productions and Shock Trauma for the honor to serve you! #heroes

Please enjoy this 2:30 minute video of just a few of the most impactful moments we've experienced through our lenses at ELM. There are too many moments to choose from and wish we could put all of them in here and name each of you individually. It's been an honor. And thank you to our talented edit squad, Rebecca McCutcheon & Jody Weldon for crafting this piece so thoughtfully. We simply wanted to make a tribute video to say "Thank you" to the dozens of non-profit enitities and philanthropists that we have the pleasure of serving who are dedicated to making the world a better place for our great-grandchildren.

This is the remarkable journey of a boy from Baltimore who discovered music, never gave up, and now plays his tuba for audiences worldwide. Go to the link below to read more about his inspiring tale and how YOU can help tell Richard's story to those who could use some inspiration (all of us). For many nights as a child “Little Ricky” slept under a tree on the sidewalk imagining his “tummy was full.” That boy graduated from the Baltimore School for the Arts, then Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University, and finally Indiana University where he became the first African American to receive his Doctorate in Music of Tuba Performance. The remarkable journey of Dr. Richard A. White (R.A.W.) shows what happens when grit collides with educators who refuse to give up. Now he's on a mission to help others see that anything is possible with a little imagination. If you are so moved please reshare this post and/or donate. If we reach our fundraising goal we will give the Baltimore School for the Arts a brand new Apple MacBook Pro (value $2700). The BSA is a Baltimore public school with high standards and big hearts, a recipe for developing productive young minds. It works when you consider some of their most notable graduates, 2Pac Shakur, Jada Pinkett Smith, Richard White, and so many others. Thank you and blessings. Love, ELM #rawsome
How can you start at any point in life yet reach extremely high goals? Dr. Richard Antoine White was a homeless child in Baltimore and is now a professor at the University of New Mexico, a tubist at the New Mexico Philharmonic, and the first African American to receive a Doctorate of Music in Tuba Performance. Go to this link to read more about his inspiring story, why you never give up, and how YOU can help tell Richard's inspiring story to those who need to hear it. https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/r-a-w-film-from-destitute-to-doctorate/x/19542666#/ Richard's vivid imagination and hard work took him from sleeping under trees in Sandtown, Baltimore to graduating from the Baltimore School for the Arts, Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, and Indiana University. It's also the story of how important the arts are in education and why teachers sometimes need to take a chance and also never give up. R.A.W. now travels the world playing music with the best, and he never could have done it without grit and people who believed in him. His story is important for so many people who may not know that they can achieve their dreams too no matter where they are in life. If you are so moved please reshare this post and/or donate. Please support the US Naval Academy by visiting the link in our bio. It was truly humbling to witness how this school develops young men and women into leaders of the highest standards. The list is long of alumni who have gone on to do historic achievements, protect this country in massive ways, and made the ultimate sacrifice. Many of these midshipmen were in preschool when the twin towers fell, and yet they purpose to make sure it never happens again. God bless them and #neverforget
