“Even though the world is on hold due to COVID-19, that doesn’t mean cancer is," says Megan Rumph, ’21, an event chair for Relay For Life of Loyola University Maryland, which will look a little different this year.

Each year, the student-organized event raises thousands of dollars for the American Cancer Society. Last year, the committee raised $116,335!

This year, the event will be completely virtual on Saturday, April 18 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Visit Loyola’s Relay for Life Instagram and pages to watch videos from the virtual event. For more info: https://loyo.la/3eu6D9k

Coronavirus Updates - Loyola University Maryland

With the health of the Loyola community as our top priority, Loyola University Maryland will be suspending face-to-face instruction on all campuses, effective tomorrow, March 11.

All residence halls will close on Friday, March 13, at noon. Students are to return home as soon as possible. Residential students who are unable to travel home must request permission to stay.

Beginning with the start of classes on Wednesday, March 18, faculty will teach their classes online or electronically. We plan to resume face-to-face classes on campus on Wednesday, April 1. If we need to extend the online instruction, we will let you know in a timely way.

Welcome back, Greyhounds! As you return to campus, we wanted to share some recommendations for maintaining a safe and healthy Evergreen in light of the outbreak of 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).

🏥 If you traveled to any location affected by COVID-19 over Spring Break, please call Loyola University Maryland Student Health Services (410-617-5055) for an initial phone screening.

🧼 Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds – about the time it takes to sing the chorus of Lizzo's "Truth Hurts."

🤔 Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.

🤧 Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue.

🛌 Stay home when you are sick.

Loyola University Maryland was awarded $500,000 through the Maryland E-Nnovation Initiative Fund (MEIF), to establish an endowed professorship in innovation. Read more here: https://www.loyola.edu/news/2020/0130-meif-grant

The Maryland E-Nnovation Initiative Fund (MEIF), administered by the Maryland Department of Commerce, has awarded the University $500,000 in funding to establish an endowed professorship in innovation to expand scientific research in biohealth and promote economic and entrepreneurial success in the state of Maryland!

The faculty member in the new endowed professorship in innovation will work in Loyola’s biology department and aims to:

☑️ grow undergraduate biomedical research,

☑️ provide students with professional skills to work in bioscience industries,

☑️create new biotechnology research opportunities that extend undergraduate students’ exposure to scientific careers, and

☑️ develop community partnerships with private and public health research organizations.
