The MySpace comeback is real, but the story needs one important correction.

Tom Anderson, the smiling face remembered as everyone’s first friend, is not the person bringing it back.

In August 2026, reports said the current owners of MySpace were preparing a relaunch of the social platform. The effort is connected to the Vanderhook brothers and the company behind the brand, not its original co-founder.

The appeal is obvious.

Many people remember MySpace as the internet before every feed became a performance measured by recommendations, engagement systems, and invisible ranking formulas. Profiles could be personalized. Music started playing when someone visited. Friend lists were public. The famous Top 8 could strengthen friendships or start arguments before lunch.

Reports about the revival have leaned heavily into that nostalgia, including talk of customizable pages, music, friend-focused discovery, and a more chronological social experience.

The final product may not reproduce every old feature exactly, and details can still change before a full launch.

But the excitement says something larger about the current internet.

People are not only nostalgic for an old website.

They miss having an online space that felt personal, slightly chaotic, and controlled by the user instead of shaped almost entirely by an algorithm.

Whether the new MySpace succeeds or not, the desire behind its return is already clear.

Hey all, a little late night post to remind you guys that I'm still building out the perk section and the emails. Just a lot of code and logic to go over, and this stuff takes a lot of time. But. I do have a back log of thank you emails and also accounts that will be up on the fog and film website for you to get all your perks and stuff figured out! I'm building the whole system as I go along, so it might be a little slow. I am only one person after all, but we're building something cool and great and I'm so thankful to everyone who's been a part of it
