Pursuit of Imperfect (POI) is a community seeking to integrate the mind, body, & sexuality. In our Yoga offerings we facilitate group and individual yoga sessions for all bodies and experience levels. Our goal is to create a safe place for you to experience movement and mediation that heals and synchronizes mind and body. The intersection of Yoga and Sexuality for POI is still in process. My first yoga class I went to, circa 2004, felt like a weird stretchy class. I had to look around to see what I was supposed to be doing. Then that nap thing at the end really confused me (I was young and didn’t value rest then 😅)

It was another ten years before yoga re-entered my life. What flipped for me was the experience of coherence, this internal alignment of arriving at home in my body during a yoga class. That nap pose at the end became a sanctuary where soundless tears released all the hiding, perfection building and stuck-in-my-head narratives onto my mat.

Yoga is a practice of returning home to yourself, again and again. My yoga teacher has wired that into my way of practice. 🙏

"Right now these kids and their mother are in the way."
This comment was about myself and my children at the pet store today by another customer engaged with a sales associate. I immediately redirected my children aside and found my body tense, gaze narrowed, and now in a hurry. I felt I'd done something wrong and became more managing of my children than I usually would.

They're good kids and know how to behave respectfully. I didn't need to snip at them. And my body felt defensive by the one sentence overheard about my family. By a stranger, apparently in a hurry, maybe his pet is severely ill or he was overwhelmed by the increased number of shoppers in the store, and forgot "these kids and their mother" were human beings too.

A reminder that among the haze of busy, activation to our nervous systems increase by so many people with or without a relationship history to us.

We can "both and" our experience alongside others. We are all human. Look the cashiers in the eyes and ask how their day has been. Smile at those in line around you. We can infuse the humanity and light back into this ridiculously commercialized season.

Local Vancouver, WA area in-person FREE yoga event! Spread the word.

It's been a while since Battle Ground has had a local yoga studio and in our excitement to open Studio 312 we are offering a FREE Saturday class on the first Saturdays of the month through the rest of 2023.

Been on the fence of trying yoga? Missing that in-person community of going to class locally? This is your invite to come join us this Saturday, October 7th at 9am for yoga and a tea social afterward provided so we can being to rebuild our communal practices together.

Sometimes we get confused, thinking growth happens when we do the hardest thing possible. Or when we are at rock bottom, finally more uncomfortable with the status quo than with the discomfort of change. And those encounters can certainly force us into new limits and growth.

Most often though, sustainable growth happens in a gentler way.

When we find just the right amount of tolerable discomfort combined with a bit of ease, our container for growth strengthens, creating just enough expansion to hold the change and allow us access to it again and again, becoming a normalized pathway.

If you are looking to find a sustainable path toward growth in your life a somatic oriented practice, like yoga or somatic experiencing 1:1 sessions, may be the next right step for you to find balance and coherence within your life.

Recently my youngest turned 5 years old. A whole handful ✋🏼

A BIRTHday tradition in our home is telling the full story of your birth (age appropriately 😉) before getting into any presents or other celebrations.

We reflected back to me being 41 weeks pregnant with her, the day of her birth, when this photo was taken and soon-to-be-big brother was offering support.

With little-Miss-5 I did prenatal yoga as a lifeline practice for my physical and mental health. I wish I had chosen to prioritize it in my prior pregnancies. It made the difference between feeling attuned to my body and capable of trusting my power and intuition over reliance on my brain to coach me through the book-knowledge or blind assumption “my body will know what to do” (avoidance) of what to expect through pregnancy and birth (both of which I did in my previous pregnancies).

You don’t birth with your brain.
You birth with you body.

And prenatal yoga supports building that relationship of trust between mind, body and intuition with embodied practices.

Let me say it again: Pregnancy is not an illness. It is a state of health.

Prenatal Yoga supports your body as it changes to accommodate a whole new, tiny human through building strength, increasing circulation throughout the body (which decreases swelling) and down-regulates your nervous system to rest deeply.

This isn't a modified traditional yoga class. Prenatal Yoga is a class entirely of its own for prenatal bodies who want to tap into their capacity for health throughout their entire pregnancy and postpartum.

Join us on Fridays, September 8, 15, and 22nd from 1:00-2:15pm.

Yoga modifications for Pregnancy + why:

When taking a High Lunge | Crescent Lunge with a twist you'll want to modify the twist to move belly away from your front leg by shifting into Side Angle Lunge.

OR

Stay in Crescent Lunge and opt out of the twist in order to maintain stability in the pelvis and avoid unnecessary strain on the SI joint.

This year's Femme focus brings us to the sacredness of our rest. Through 75 minutes of a luxuriously supportive yoga practice, we dedicate our time to stepping into the ceremony of rest to ground, nourish, and keep us whole.

This event occurs on Mother's Day, and is not exclusive to only mothers. All women are invited to this special practice.
And, it is mother's day, so for those mamas in your life this is a perfect gift of rest and love as a brief afternoon of nurturing her.
