Around the paddock in Round 1 of 2026.

Fist time I ran the new spec V601 tires for Stock and Street class. They reward drivers who can immediately get on the pace, which is a challenge for me, as I typically build up to the pace over a session. They are really fun to slide around and very controllable at the limit.

Amazing conditions at Laguna last weekend for Round 6. Another new PB and still room for improvement as I dial in the setup (and driver mod).

Next up: Thunderhill next weekend!

For 86 Challenge Round 5 at Sonoma, I had to eat some humble pie.

In my first session, I was too conservative and didn’t set a great time. Before the second session, I reviewed data and got some coaching from . I was going to focus on carrying more speed out the esses in the second half of the lap.

Unfortunately, on the very first hot lap of the 2nd session, I understeered straight off the track and took an accidental rally line. No damage or anything, but I filtered through the hot pits, as you are supposed to after going 4-wheels off. When I rejoined I was deep in traffic and struggled to get a clean lap in. The rest of the day was too hot to improve further.

I ended up P4 but there was a lot more time on the table. I’ve got some unfinished business at Sonoma!

This was also my first time out with the .delta high capacity oil pan and I was able to collect some good data for them. Excited for you all to see the results.

Thanks to our sponsors and trackday organizer

Two ways to fix a stripped set screw on a spring perch (without removing the coilover).

The background:
The / KW spring perch is made of a composite material. The perch is held in place on the threaded shock body with a set screw which only calls for a few in/lbs of torque. It’s relatively easy to strip these, which the previous owner and/or I did. So I wanted a way to keep the perch from rotating up or down the shock body (which would change the ride height) without removing them. If I removed the coilovers, I would need to align the car again (McPherson strut things).

Approach 1:
My friend helped me design and 3D print this two part clamp with a castellated top interface that keys into the shock perch, using the same features the perch wrench keys into it. Clamping force goes into the shock body and the keys just prevent the perch for rotating on the body. Stainless bolts and square nuts (easier to 3D print holes for) apply the clamping force. Works well!

Approach 2:
My other approach was using a heat-set threaded insert and buying a slightly smaller nylon tipped set screw. This also works but feels a little less substantial. The set screw is M4 (down from M5) to allow it to fit without drilling out a bigger hole in the perch (not feasible while leaving the coilovers in place). My soldering iron didn’t get hot enough so I needed to bust out the Coleman grill lol.

Which approach did I choose? Why not both?

If you’re new to the oil pressure research we’ve done on the FA24 (you may have heard about the pressure drops on right-hand turns), please start with this video. It establishes our baseline findings, with a very light track-oriented build and low-grip tires.
