Leer es mucho más que aprender palabras. Es aprender a pensar, a preguntar, a imaginar y, sobre todo, a descubrir nuestra propia voz.

Hoy, en Spanish with Meches, honramos el legado de Gloria Steinem recordando algo que quiero enseñarles a todos los niños: sus palabras importan, sus ideas tienen valor y sus voces merecen ser escuchadas.

Porque las palabras que aprendemos hoy pueden convertirse en las ideas que transformen el mañana.



Reading is so much more than learning words. It is learning to think, to ask questions, to imagine, and most importantly, to discover our own voice.

Today, at Spanish with Meches, we honor Gloria Steinem’s legacy by remembering something I want every child to learn: their words matter, their ideas have value, and their voices deserve to be heard.

Because the words we learn today can become the ideas that transform tomorrow.

Un libro no termina cuando cerramos la última página.

Las historias pueden seguir viviendo de muchas maneras: podemos jugar, dibujar, crear, cocinar, imaginar nuevos finales o inventar nuestros propios personajes.

En Spanish with Meches creemos que leer es solo el comienzo. Cada cuento puede convertirse en una oportunidad para aprender, conversar, crear recuerdos y despertar la imaginación de los niños.

Leer con los niños es mucho más que terminar un cuento. Las preguntas que hacemos pueden abrir la puerta a la imaginación, la creatividad, la conversación y nuevas ideas.

En lugar de preguntar solamente: “¿Te gustó el cuento?”, invitemos a los niños a pensar más allá de las páginas: ¿Qué cambiarían? ¿Qué personaje serían? ¿Qué imaginan que pasó después?

Leer juntos también es conversar, escuchar, imaginar y conectar.

Compártelo con alguien que lee con niños.



Reading with children is about so much more than finishing a story. The questions we ask can open the door to imagination, creativity, conversation, and new ideas.

Instead of simply asking, “Did you like the story?”, invite children to think beyond the pages: What would they change? Which character would they be? What do they imagine happened next?

Reading together is also talking, listening, imagining, and connecting.

A book can be much more than a story. It can remind children that their dreams matter, that believing in themselves is powerful, and that there is no limit to how high they can go.

This weekend, our recommendation is “Cuando las niñas vuelan alto” by Diaz Reguera, a beautiful story about dreams, friendship, confidence, and the courage to believe in yourself.

At Spanish with Meches, we believe every child deserves stories that inspire them to dream big.



Un libro puede ser mucho más que una historia. Puede recordarles a los niños que sus sueños importan, que creer en sí mismos es poderoso y que no hay límites para lo alto que pueden llegar.

Reading with children can turn every page into a new discovery. A new word is more than vocabulary—it is an opportunity to ask questions, explore ideas, and make language part of everyday life.

When children discover a word, use it, and make it their own, their confidence and curiosity grow right along with their vocabulary.

One new word today can open a bigger world tomorrow.



Leer con los niños puede convertir cada página en un nuevo descubrimiento. Una palabra nueva es mucho más que vocabulario: es una oportunidad para hacer preguntas, explorar ideas y hacer del lenguaje parte de la vida cotidiana.

Reading is more than recognizing words. It is an invitation to imagine, create, and make every story our own.

After reading together, invite children to draw what they imagined. Their pictures may be completely different—and that is the beauty of it. Every child experiences a story through their own imagination.

Less correction, more connection. Less pressure, more passion for reading.



Leer es mucho más que reconocer palabras. Es una invitación a imaginar, crear y hacer nuestra cada historia.

Reading is not a race, and every word does not need to be perfect.

When children read, give them time to finish, listen to their ideas, and celebrate their effort. Confidence grows when children feel supported, and little by little, fluency will follow.

First, let’s help them fall in love with books. The rest will come with practice.



Leer no es una carrera y cada palabra no tiene que ser perfecta.
