"Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to get through this thing called life."

The iconic Gio mural mural at CJ's Restaurant and Bar made its debut on their wall four years ago, and it still hangs on their wall proudly. #ThrowbackThursday

What's old is new again at CJ's as their decor gets a fresh look for the upcoming season. The photo of CJ's founder, Giovanni Palermo (aka Gio) with his faithful friend Sergio II (not to be mistaken with Sergio the First) was taken by FIN editor, Shoshanna McCollum in 1997. The original version of this image, without color editing, was part of an exhibition that hung in the Ocean Beach Historical Society that summer called "Fire Islanders on Four Legs: Famous Pets and Their People". Love endures, and the human spirit immortal.

Islands battle for Pete Davidson and Colin Jost’s ferryboat

“While we are well aware of your affinity for your native Staten Island, we welcome you to consider bringing this iconic vessel to a Long Island venue such as Port Jefferson, Patchogue or even Fire Island.” – Town of Brookhaven Supervisor Ed Romaine.

A tug of war has erupted between Long Island and Staten Island over who will land the decommissioned ferry.

Gilbert Baker past away five years ago on March 31, 2017, but word of his passing did not hit mainstream media until a few days later. Gilbert was a friend of Fire Island, adopting Cherry Grove as one of his stomping grounds in his later years. While known for the rainbow flag, his artistic voice continued to develop, with his cartography map painting being a signature series that he sold for reasonable price at local art shows. His legacy lives on. 🏳️‍🌈
