All editions of The Living Church Acclaims (TLCA) are now available through OCP and Zeal. Here is the official announcement: https://zealmusicpublishing.com/campaigns/635130

Thank you to current and future users of TLCA!

In the midst of COVID-19 difficulties that are particularly harsh on the work of liturgical musicians, I wanted to touch base. For me, one of the most difficult things to deal with is the loss of that community feeling of just being in the same space, making music with my choir and other church musi...

Zeal Music Publishing - The Fruit of the Spirit

Thank you to everyone who participated in and attended the premiere of “The Fruit of the Spirit - A Pentecost Cantata” on Sat, May 19. You can now listen to it, read the libretto, and find out more at Zeal Music: https://zealmusicpublishing.com/the-fruit-of-the-spirit

Choir director colleagues: The cantata can be performed with only choir, four soloists, organ, and piano. There are also parts for double bass, timpani, and aux percussion. The music’s duration is about 37 minutes and you can download a complete preview PDF. When it was premiered, we used a format similar to Lessons & Carols, with a reading before each movement but it can easily be presented straight-through, with no readings. You can download a copy of the bulletin to see how we did it.

Thank you to Troy Vetch at St. Anthony Church in Westbrook Minnesota for these thoughts about The Living Church Acclaims!

"Just wanted to leave some words of thanks for your "The Living Church Acclaims". We at Saint Anthony Church in Westbrook Minnesota really enjoy what you have done. We are but a very small church. As a musician there, I appreciate the format of the book. You don't have to be an expert player, like me. ;) Also, I like how you have posted all the recordings, with and without vocals and played in the same key they are written. I can play along with you, so to speak and learn it. Thanks again for all your efforts, they are appreciated."

Zeal Music Publishing - Ave Maria

I am so happy to unveil my latest creation: a setting of Ave Maria for solo voice, piano, and an optional choir part that comes in at the end. It was composed for the accomplished and inspiring soprano, Jocelyn Claire Thomas. There are editions for high voice (high note: A-flat) and low voice (high note: F).

My goal was to create a setting that follows the feel of the classic text with a strong, arching melody supported by a harmonic progression that emanates both warmth and heroism. The optional choir part comes in at the end in unison followed by the word "Amen", voiced as desired. Perhaps you know a singer who is up for something new. Thank you in advance to those who give it a try—I'd love to know what you think.

Hear Jocelyn sing it, download a copy, and learn more here: https://zealmusicpublishing.com/ave-maria

Sincerely,
Scot

NEWLY-RELEASED! http://bit.ly/2tVkYo0
Here's a new collection of liturgical music published by OCP. This is music that I composed and refined for my work at my parish, St. John's. I hope some of the titles may be useful for you. Broad usage: a new setting of The Beatitudes that features a new text by Sr. Delores Dufner, a gathering song with timely insights, an easy-to-learn 2-part setting of "May the Road Rise Up to Meet You", a setting of Sr. Genevieve Glen's stunning text, "The Thorn Tree", accessible choir anthems, and more. A brief description of each title, recordings, and preview PDFs are available at the link above.

May the Road Rise Up to Meet You

NEW! An easy-to-learn, setting of the traditional Irish Blessing: May the Road Rise Up to Meet You for congregation, optional two-part choir, keyboard, and guitar

Hear a recording and download a PDF preview copy

NOTES
This musical setting of the traditional Celtic prayer text is intended to be an easily-learned song for marriage and funeral liturgies, and it is appropriate for any occasion that necessitates a general blessing. The arrangement opens with a cantor or choir singing the melody once. That is followed by an optional, more elaborate reiteration for two-part choir and descant. The entire piece can be sung in unison, if desired.

A rather slow tempo works well, giving the piece a pleasing, solemn sense.

Rejoice in the Promise of Jesus

Delores Dufner and I have collaborated on a new setting of The Beatitudes titled "Rejoice in the Promise of Jesus". She's penned a rather striking text and I've structured the music with haunting verses in E minor followed by a joyous refrain in G major. Topics and use include All Saints, ordinations, communion, funerals, and general use. I hope you find it useful. Published by OCP. http://tinyurl.com/gqykqxz
