West Virginia author Sarah Sullivan will read from her latest children's book, "Passing the Music Down," at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 14, outside the Youth Museum of Southern West Virginia, 509 Ewart Ave., Beckley.

West Virginia author Sarah Sullivan will read from her latest children’s book, “Passing the Music Down,” at 11am on Saturday, April 14, outside the Youth Museum of Southern West Virginia, 509 Ewart Avenue in Beckley. Presented by the museum in conjunction with Mountain State University’s Appalachian Visions series, the family-friendly event is free and open to all. There is an admission fee of $5 for children ages 3 and up to enter the museum, where the current Main Gallery exhibit, “Once Upon A Time,” focuses on the power and significance of fairy tales throughout history and from around the world.

Rising regional writer and former faculty member Ben Campbell returns to Mountain State University to headline the third annual “Poetry Aloud” reading sponsored by MSU’s Appalachian Visions series. In addition to Campbell’s fiction, the event will also feature the work of student writers affiliated with MSU’s literary magazine, “Mountain Whispers,” and its creative writing organization, the Scribblers Society. The reading begins at 7pm on Friday, April 13, at the John W. Eye Conference Center on MSU’s Beckley campus. As with all Appalachian Visions events, there is no charge and the public is encouraged to attend.

Two women plus ten instruments equals one good time when Simple Gifts takes the stage of the John W. Eye Conference Center, Tuesday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. as part of the fall 2011 season of Mountain State University's acclaimed Appalachian Visions series.
