Finished putting together the mobile set up for Podcasting and Legacy Video recording. I was needing a kit where the only things I needed to steal from permanent setups for now would be lights and tripods.

A lot of what we do is based on our Video Business Card format. It entails: interviewing people in long form; capturing lots of video content called b-roll which tells the story in pictures; transcribing the entire interview; looking for the story within the transcript: cutting together clips to come up with a script; stitching together a rough cut video for review; reworking the story where necessary (usually includes removing clips deemed to not move the story forward and sometimes has meant starting from scratch); once story is tight we add b-roll to cover the edits (we’re not big on jumps cuts); edit the audio to make sure mix isn’t a distraction.

Here’s an example we produced for Austin Tennis Academy in 2019. We were contacted to produce five videos covering: Camps; Fitness, ATA College Prep; Tennis Programs; and a story covering The Essence of ATA (this video). We interviewed 22 people and shot hours of b-roll over three days in order to create five videos of approximately 3:00. To this day Austin Tennis Academy is a major client.

The pandemic left us needing to create content for our client, Austin Tennis Academy. Even though people around the world were mandated to “shelter in place”, we saw an opportunity to present ATA as a leader in Strength & Conditioning space. We leveraged our connections at Soto Tennis Academy in Spain to develop a fitness show featuring the S&C professionals from both programs. They used whatever they had (ipad, we**am, or even their phone) to send feeds into the makeshift studio in our Austin one bedroom apartment where we produced and presented a live broadcast.

Unfortunately the show fell victim to tennis being blessed as a naturally socially distant activity and the presenter time being highly in demand. We are going to resurrect this type of program and up the production quality by using better cameras, microphones, and lighting

How EKH Media came into being:

Unbeknownst to us at the time, the seed for EKH Media was planted with the production of this video in 2015. Evans Kurth Holdings LLC was operating two City of Dallas tennis centers. In 1965 one of these facilities, Samuell Grand Tennis Center, had been the first public facility to host a Davis Cup Tie. In preparation for the celebration we decided to record a mini documentary of how the 1965 USA vs Mexico Davis Cup Tie came to be.
