Harford County Executive Glassman Invites Citizens to Observe Moment of Silence for 9/11 Victims

BEL AIR, Md., (Sept. 8, 2020) –County Executive Barry Glassman invites all Harford County citizens to observe a private moment of silence on the 19th anniversary of the September 11 terror attacks this Friday at 8:46 a.m. At that time, the public is also welcome to gather with county employees for a brief ceremony outside the county government administrative building at 220 S. Main Street in Bel Air. Attendees should maintain social distancing and wear masks where appropriate.

It was 8:46 a.m. on September 11, 2001 when the first plane struck the World Trade Center in New York City.

“The coronavirus pandemic continues to bring challenges to our families and communities, and on Friday we will recall another time when our country was hit by an unprecedented attack,” County Executive Glassman said. “As we remember the innocent victims of that tragic day, let us also remember that our nation has weathered many storms. As always, the best way forward is together.”

A public safety message from Harford County Executive Barry Glassman:

“You already know to call 911 in an emergency, but sometimes it’s impossible or unsafe to talk on the phone. If your hearing or speech is impaired, or if you can’t make a voice call for any reason, now you can text 911 on your cellphone.

Text to 911 works in Maryland for customers of major wireless carriers who are enrolled in a texting or data plan. Check with your carrier if you have questions about your service.

When you text 911, be sure to give us the location and type of emergency. But remember, calling 911 is still the best way to get help. So, call if you can. Text if you can’t.

Thanks and be safe.”
