The millionaire’s new wife “forgets” her stepdaughter locked inside the car… until the maid does the unthinkable…
“Mommy, help me!”
Little Sophie Carter’s voice was hoarse, her tiny fists weakly tapping against the tinted window of the black Mercedes. The summer sun had turned the car into an oven. Sweat streamed down her cheeks, soaking her pale yellow dress. Every breath was short and shaky, her lips trembling as she tried to scream.
Just minutes earlier, her stepmother, Claudia, had stepped out of the car. Her red heels clicked confidently on the marble driveway as she pressed the central lock button. She turned for a moment—her eyes met Sophie’s pleading gaze—and then she looked away with a barely noticeable smile. To anyone else it might have seemed like a simple mistake, but Sophie knew the truth: Claudia had left her there on purpose.
On the porch, Elena, the maid, was carrying a basket of freshly folded sheets. At first, she thought she heard wind rustling through the branches. Then a soft tap… and another. She turned, and froze in place. Sophie’s tiny hands were pressed against the window; her face red, covered in tears.
“Miss Sophie!” Elena shouted, dropping the basket. She ran to the car and pulled the handle. Locked. The heat radiating from inside hit her like a wave, and panic took hold of her.
“Hold on, sweetheart! I’m going to get you out!”
She pounded on the window until her skin split open.
“Madam! The keys! Please!” she screamed toward the mansion. No one answered. The only sound was the little girl’s weakening sobs.
Desperate, Elena looked for something to break the glass with. She tried again and again, but the window wouldn’t give. Sophie’s tiny body slumped against the seat, struggling to breathe.
At that moment, the roar of an engine broke the silence. A silver BMW pulled up in front of the house. Daniel Carter, Sophie’s father, stepped out in his perfectly tailored navy suit.
The scene he saw froze him: Elena pounding on the window, Sophie half-conscious inside.
“What is going on here?” Daniel thundered, running toward them.
“She’s trapped! She can’t breathe!” Elena cried, her hands covered in blood.
Daniel turned pale. He slammed his hands against the window.
“Sophie! Daddy’s here—hold on!”
But it wouldn’t open.
“Where are the keys?” he demanded.
“Claudia… took them. She didn’t come back,” Elena whispered.
Daniel’s heart stopped. His wife hadn’t forgotten anything. She had left the little girl locked in there on purpose.
Elena crouched, grabbed a stone from the garden, and raising it, shouted:
“Forgive me, sir… but there’s no other way!”
And she slammed it against the window.
CRACK!
Blood gushed from her hand as the glass began to break.
