"Can I take a pin?"

That's the question that sparked the need for this episode; what we call "Running 101".

Erin and I sat down and did the best we could to impart wisdom through fits of laughter. At the core, this episode should serve as a reminder that every single runner, cyclist, and/or triathlete you know, regardless of current ability, was once a beginner. They also wondered what clothes to wear on race day, what was the big deal about nutrition, and do you have to wear the race shirt to the actual race. Don't even get us started on bibs!

Erin is definitely coming back for "Running 102". I may not have the best show, but I most certainly have the best guests.

Lol, sometimes this show is just feast or famine. We go weeks between episodes then I hit you all with three big ones all in a row.

and I sat down to discuss our intermediate milestones; the term coined by my guest, Ray Einig. While I do discuss mine, you’ll have to wait until next month as I deferred.

But this is Marty’s weekend to go for his 3rd PR at the 13.1 distance on the paths along the lake. He looked so happy in that 2024 race photo in his shorts and short sleeves. Marty won’t have that weather come this Saturday but that just serves to remind all of us. You may play in the arena, but Mother Nature is your landlord, and this year she’s bringing some crazy!

Some episodes just hit differently.

Please welcome and Joel Feinberg to the pod. This past June, Sophia crushed her first Ironman 70.3 alongside her father. She talks about her journey from sprint, to olympic, to 70.3!
So many sound bites from this episode, I can’t name a favorite. I recorded it; I listened for edits; and I’ve listened just because. At just 19, Sophia shows a maturity level as an athlete rarely seen in people half (or three times) her age! At older than that (lol), Joel is just a pleasure to listen to; he is so matter of fact on topics most runners sweat over. IMHO, this is the type of episode you’ll find on more established podcasts.

It doesn’t matter what you are training for; there is a takeaway in this episode for everyone.

I had the pleasure and honor of sitting down with to discuss his journey to becoming an Ironman and let me tell you, it doesn’t matter what you are training for, there is a takeaway in this episode for everyone!

The biggest lesson I took away is the importance of being patient with yourself and your journey. There’s a reason people design 16, 24, even 40 week training plans. Big goals do not happen overnight. So whether you are playing long ball, prepared to stay the course, here for the long run, or in it until the end, Ray’s story embodies all of those.

Naturally I left in the parts where he complimented me both at the beginning and end - this host needed that confidence boost for sure!

Big things are happening on Start Lines and Swag Bags but whose is bigger?

Marty () and I start our series about some really big goals we both have. Every month, we are going to come together to discuss our progress and set monthly targets. In this episode, we also touch on saunas and steam rooms; how truly disgusting they are, and how we wouldn’t trade them for anything.

If you please, allow me to reintroduce myself.

Hi, I’m Rachael, Founder of The Flying Pig Project. I also have recorded 54 episodes of my podcast, Start Lines and Swag Bags. Recently, I have been making changes to my social pages and now they are a little kerfuffled.

But, I just dropped Episode #201: The Vision and I invite you to check it out on Spotify, Apple, and/or YouTube. I speak about the break we’ve been on and what’s coming up! AND the person who guesses the correct amount of “uh”s, could win a piece of our new swag! AND if you want to be on the show, DM ME!

As always, thank you all for supporting my small business.
