DM "Content" To Get Started

11/07/2025

If your content is all about YOU, your audience will leave. Here's the fix. 🚫

Mistake #8: Posting too much promotional or selfish content—and wondering why nobody was engaging. Here's why...

Nobody cares about your glamorous life, your aesthetic photos, or how amazing your product is... unless you're giving them a reason to care.

I see this ALL the time:
Feed full of selfies with vague captions about "living your best life."
Every other post is "Sign up now! DM me to book! Link in bio!"
Posts that are all about YOU—your wins, your life, your services—with nothing in it for your audience.

Your audience doesn't follow you for you. They follow you for what you can do for THEM.

When your content is only self-serving—when it's just promotional posts, lifestyle flexes, or ego boosts—you're not building a brand. You're building a wall between you and potential clients.

Selfish content kills engagement. Value-driven content builds trust and converts.

Your content should serve your audience first. It should:
✔️ Educate them on something they need to know
✔️ Inspire them to take action toward their goals
✔️ Motivate them when they're stuck or struggling
✔️ Provide solutions to the problems they're dealing with
✔️ Give them insight they can't get anywhere else

The 80/20 rule: 80% value-driven content, 20% promotional.
Give, give, give, give, THEN ask.

When you consistently show up with content that helps your audience get past their roadblocks, they start to see you as the solution. When you finally DO promote your offer, they're ready to buy because you've already proven your value.

But if every post is "buy my thing," they'll scroll right past you—or worse, unfollow.
Your content isn't a billboard. It's a bridge to your ideal clients.

Stop making it all about you. Start making it all about them.

You spent 2 hours creating a reel yesterday. Carefully editing clips, adding captions and b-roll, then another 30 minutes writing the caption, making sure it had the right keywords.

You hit post, feeling proud that you stayed consistent. Then... nothing. Zero DMs. Zero sales. And now you're sitting here thinking, "What's the point? Why am I even doing this?"

Here's what nobody tells you: Posting just to post is actually hurting your business.

I know you've heard "consistency is key." I know you see other people posting daily and think you need to keep up. I know the algorithm gods have convinced you that if you don't show up every day, you'll disappear.

Posting without purpose is just noise. When you create content just to check a box, you end up with:

Inconsistent messaging that confuses your audience
Content that doesn't actually provide value
Hours wasted on posts that don't move your business forward
Complete burnout from creating content that gets you nowhere

I fell into this trap HARD. I was posting 5-7 times a week, spending hours every day on content, and seeing absolutely no results. No growth. No engagement. No clients.

I was exhausted. Frustrated. Ready to quit social media altogether.
Now, before I create anything, I ask myself:

1. What is the ONE thing I want my audience to learn, feel, or do after seeing this?

2. Does this align with my overall content strategy and business goals?

3. What action do I want them to take after consuming this?
Comment? Save? DM me? Click a link? If I don't have a clear next step, the content isn't working for my business.

If I can't answer these three questions clearly, I don't post it to my feed.

Sometimes posting LESS with MORE intention will get you better results than posting daily without strategy.

Your content is invisible if it's not SEO-friendly. Here's how to fix it. 🔍

Mistake #5: Not optimizing my content for search.

In case you didn't know, social media isn't just social anymore. It's a search engine.

In 2021, TikTok became the most-used search engine, passing Google. Instagram followed right behind. People aren't just scrolling feeds. They're SEARCHING for solutions to their problems.

That means your content can work for you long after you post it... but only if it's optimized for search.

Here's how to make your content SEO-friendly:

1. Use keywords in your captions
Think about what your ideal client would type into the search bar. "Content strategy for coaches," "marketing tips for service providers," etc. Weave those phrases naturally into your captions.

2. Add keywords to your content itself
Use text overlays in reels and carousels with searchable phrases. The algorithm reads that text and categorizes your content accordingly.

3. Optimize your profile
Your name field and bio should include keywords that describe what you do. "Digital Marketing Strategist | Content Coach" tells Instagram (and your ideal clients) exactly who you are.

4. Create evergreen content
Focus on topics that will be relevant for the foreseeable future, not just trending moments. Evergreen content keeps working for you long after you post it.

5. Think like your audience
What questions are they asking? What problems are they searching for solutions to? Create content that answers those specific searches.

Your content should work for you while you sleep. SEO makes that possible. 💤

Quick challenge: Go search a keyword in your niche right now. Notice how posts from months or even years ago are still showing up? That could be YOUR content bringing in clients on autopilot.

What's one keyword you should be using more in your content? Drop it below

Content Strategy Mistakes I Made pt.3: Creating content without a clear purpose or strategy behind it.

I get it. You know you're "supposed" to post because consistency is key. You see other people showing up daily, so you think you need to as well.

So you scramble to throw something together. Spend 2 hours making a reel. Stress over the caption. Hit post. Then... nothing.

And that's because posting without purpose does more harm than good.

When you post just to check a box, you end up with:
❌ Inconsistent messaging that confuses your audience
❌ Content that doesn't provide real value
❌ Wasted time and energy on posts that don't move the needle
❌ Burnout from creating content that gets you nowhere

Every piece of content you post should have a clear intention:
✔️ Is it educating your audience on a specific topic?
✔️ Is it building trust and positioning you as the expert?
✔️ Is it moving people closer to working with you?
✔️ Is it starting a conversation or deepening a relationship?

If you can't answer "why am I posting this?" with a clear, strategic reason—save it for your stories.
Your stories disappear in 24 hours. Your feed content lives forever. That's what people judge you on. That's what builds your brand. That's what converts.

Sometimes posting LESS but with more intention will get you better results than posting daily without strategy.

Quality + purpose over frequency.

So before you hit post today, ask yourself: What's the purpose of this content? What action do I want my audience to take after seeing it?

If you don't have a clear answer, pause. Refine. Or save it for stories.
Your content should work FOR you, not drain you. 💡

Content Strategy Mistake I Made pt.2: Creating content you think your audience needs instead of what they're actually asking for.

I used to create content based on what I thought was important. Posting tips I was excited about, sharing strategies that worked for me, dropping info I thought people needed to hear. The problem? Nobody asked for it.

I was working hard but getting nowhere because I was having a one-sided conversation.

I started listening. I stopped guessing and started researching:
✔️ Searched my niche on Instagram, TikTok, and Google to see what questions kept popping up
✔️ Stalked comment sections on bigger accounts in my space to see what people were asking
✔️ Used story polls and surveys to ask my audience directly what they were struggling with
✔️ Tracked which content got saved, shared, and sparked DMs—that's the content hitting a nerve

When you create content based on what your audience is actually searching for, saying, and struggling with, everything shifts. Your engagement goes up. Your authority builds. Your content starts converting.

Here's a tip: Go search your industry keyword on Instagram or TikTok right now. Look at the top 5 posts. Read the comments. I guarantee you'll find 5-10 ideas for content your audience will be interested in.

What's one question YOUR audience keeps asking? Let me know below. I might just turn it into content. 👇🏾

Your content is probably flopping because you're creating what YOU want to say instead of what your AUDIENCE needs to hear.

I had to learn this the hard way.

I used to create content based on what I thought was valuable. The result? Crickets. Flat engagement. Zero DMs.

Everything changed when I stopped talking and started listening.

Here's exactly how I figured out what my audience actually wanted (and how you can do it in 10 minutes):

1. Search your niche keywords on Instagram, TikTok, or Google
See what questions keep coming up. What are people searching for? What gaps exist in the content that's already out there?

2. Stalk the comment sections of bigger accounts in your space
What are people asking? What are they struggling with? What do they wish someone would explain better?

3. Use polls and questions in your stories
Ask directly: "What's your biggest struggle with [your niche]?" or "What content do you want to see more of?" Your audience will literally tell you what to create.

4. Track what performs
Which posts get saved? Which ones spark DMs? Which ones get shared? That's the content hitting a nerve—do more of that.

5. Listen to the language they use
Don't just find the problem—find out HOW they describe it. Use their exact words in your content. That's how you create that "wait, are you in my head?" moment.

When you create content based on what your audience is actively searching for, asking about, and struggling with, everything shifts.

Your engagement goes up. Your authority builds. Your content starts converting into clients. The best content strategy isn't built from your ideas—it's built from your audience's voice.

So here's your assignment: Spend 10 minutes today researching. Pick one platform. Search your industry. Read 5 comment sections. Write down 3 questions or pain points you see repeated.
Then create content answering those questions.

Question for you: What's one question YOUR audience keeps asking that you should probably turn into content? Drop it below.

You Don't Need to Be an Influencer to Make Money Online—Here's Proof
At this point, if you haven't started growing your brand yet, if you haven't started putting out content—I'm gonna be real with you: you just don't want to. And that's okay. This isn't for everybody. Not everyone has to do it.

But if you've been sitting on the sidelines wanting to start? Now is the time.
I'm not exaggerating when I say this s**t is on easy mode right now. I have never seen it so easy to go viral, grow a following, or build a brand just from putting out regular, everyday content. It doesn't have to be anything crazy. It doesn't have to be perfect. It just has to be strategic.

And when I say strategic, I mean understanding that there are so many different ways you can make money online right now. We're talking endless possibilities.

You Can Literally Monetize Anything
There are people making real money just reacting to other people's content. That's it. Watching videos, adding commentary, and getting paid for it.

You can create theories about your favorite show, book, or comic and build an audience around that. You can write fan fiction—short stories, long stories, whatever you want. You can make video essays diving deep into topics you're passionate about.

People on TikTok are blowing up simply because they're showing up consistently. They're watching content and making little comments. They're talking about their day. Sharing what they're working on. Giving glimpses into their life.

There are people literally making money doing anything and everything you could possibly think of.
There's Never Been a Better Time Than Right Now
This level of access? This level of opportunity? It's never existed before. Everything you need is already at your fingertips.

I know a lot of people aren't doing it—and probably won't—for a whole bunch of reasons. Privacy concerns. Mental health. Anxiety. Fear of judgment. Fear of failure. I get it. There's a long list of reasons people hold themselves back.

But here's what I need you to hear: none of those are good enough reasons to not do it.

Let me say that again.
The fear, the anxiety, the overthinking—whatever it is that's holding you back—it's not a good enough reason to stay stuck. Not when the potential is this massive. Not when the barrier to entry is this low.
And especially not when there are faceless options. You don't even have to show your face if you don't want to. You can run ads. You can use voiceovers. You can create content in a hundred different ways that protect your privacy and still allow you to build something real.

There are so many ways to do this.

So What's It Gonna Be?

The opportunities are here. The tools are free or cheap. The audience is waiting.
The only question left is whether or not you're ready to stop waiting for the "perfect moment" and just start.

That's all I'm gonna say.
All right.

Why Most Marketing Strategies Fail (and How to Build One That Actually Works for You)

Let’s be real—most marketing strategies don’t fail because the platforms are broken. They fail because people are busy duct-taping together everyone else’s tactics.

You’ve probably tried it yourself:

- Posting all day, every day.
- Running ads that drained your wallet but didn’t deliver.
- Chasing every trending sound, meme, or reel like it was the golden ticket.

And what happened? Burnout. Confusion. Zero results.

It’s not your fault. Everyone’s yelling different things at you—“Post daily!” “Go live!” “Don’t do this, start doing that!” The noise is endless, and it pulls you in fifty directions with nothing to show for it. That’s how you end up with shiny object syndrome, chasing everything except what actually moves the needle.

The truth? You don’t need more noise. You need a strategy made for you—your goals, your time, your schedule. One that helps you grow without feeling like a second job.

Here’s my simple 5-step framework to cut through the chaos and finally lock in a strategy that works.

---
1. Get Crystal Clear on Your Goals

Clarity is the foundation. You can’t build momentum if you don’t know what you’re aiming for.

Ask yourself:

- What’s the big picture for my brand?

Do you want to quit your 9–5? Sell your company one day? Hit a million followers? Just fund your lifestyle?

- What does that mean monthly?

If you need $10K a month to quit your job, how are you making that—services, products, UGC deals, sponsorships?

Big goals break down into smaller, daily moves. When you know the end game, you can reverse-engineer the path and show up consistently.

And don’t forget your audience. Who are you really creating for—entrepreneurs? Stay-at-home moms? Busy dads trying to lose weight? If you don’t know, you’ll end up creating selfishly. And selfish marketing rarely works.

Serve your people, not yourself. That’s when growth starts.

---
2. Pick the Right Platform for You

One of the best things a mentor ever told me: “Never try to be everywhere.”

Think of yourself like a battery. You’ve only got 100% energy a day. If you split it across TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, Pinterest, and LinkedIn—you’re not giving 100% anywhere.

Instead, play to your strengths:

- Love video? Go hard on Reels, TikTok, or YouTube.
- Prefer writing? Live on Threads, Twitter, or LinkedIn.
- Hate being on camera? Podcasting or faceless pages work fine.

Your audience is everywhere. What matters is where you can show up consistently. Pick the platform that feels natural and sustainable. That’s where you’ll win.

---
3. Build a Repeatable Content System

Going viral won’t save you. Systems will.

You need a process for:

- Capturing ideas
- Outlining scripts or posts
- Batch-recording/creating
- Editing and repurposing
- Scheduling and posting

Creators who win aren’t luckier—they’re more consistent. They’ve built systems that let them show up without draining their energy.

That’s why I built tools like the Content Blueprint—to give people a simple tracker that keeps ideas, scheduling, and repurposing organized. The less you stress about logistics, the more energy you have for creating and connecting.

---
4. Map Your Conversion Path

Content alone doesn’t pay bills. You need to know how people move from follower to client, from “just watching” to “just paid you.”

What’s your A-to-Z path? Examples:

- Lead magnet → Email list → Paid offer
- DM outreach → Portfolio → Brand deal
- Free guide → Call booking → Coaching client

This doesn’t need to be complicated. Sometimes a simple email list can feed your business for years. But you have to know the steps. Otherwise, you’re just posting into the void.

---
5. Choose Consistency Over Complexity

Marketing doesn’t have to be complicated. In fact, complexity is what kills most strategies.

What works is:

- Posting a reel a day
- Sending 10 DMs a week
- Replying to comments daily
- Running one carousel or story with a clear CTA

Small, repeatable actions. Done consistently.

These platforms reward reliability. If you show up day after day, they’ll push your content further. Not because you gamed the algorithm, but because you became someone they can depend on.

---
Making It Real

Let’s say you’re a coach with a 9–5 job. You don’t have hours for YouTube videos.

Your strategy could be as simple as:

- Batch-record 2 talking-head reels on Monday
- Edit them Tuesday/Wednesday
- Schedule them Thursday/Friday
- Add one carousel with a “link in bio” CTA

Simple. Realistic. Sustainable.

That’s what keeps you in the game long enough to win.

---
Final Word

Stop forcing yourself into someone else’s box. Every platform works. Every style can win. But only if it’s a system that works for *you*.

Think of each post like dropping another coin into your brand’s future. One by one, it adds up. And when you build a system that feels natural—something you actually enjoy—marketing stops being a chore. It becomes a tool for freedom.

So if you’ve been struggling, take these five steps and start fresh.

And if you want a little extra support, check out the One-Page Content Blueprint I built—it’ll help you organize and simplify without overthinking.

Why Posting Every Day Won’t Grow Your Brand (Do This Instead)

Everybody online will tell you: “Just post every day and you’ll grow.”

Like there’s some magic formula where if you just show up daily, the algorithm will bless you with followers, money, and brand deals.

Let’s keep it real — that’s a lie.

I’ve tested it. I’ve posted every day for 30 days straight. Sometimes even longer. I was consistent. I showed up. And guess what? My brand didn’t magically grow. I didn’t gain a bunch of followers. I didn’t make money. Honestly, I barely got views.

So if you’ve been grinding, posting nonstop, and feeling like nothing’s happening — you’re not crazy. Posting alone isn’t enough.
---
Followers Don’t Equal Dollars

I’ve built an account to 38,000 followers before. Sounds great, right? But here’s the truth: I didn’t make money from those followers until I added strategy.

That’s when things shifted. When I started understanding the purpose behind content, how platforms really work, and how to connect with the right people — that’s when money started coming in.

So if you’re just chasing followers or virality, I’m not your guy. But if you want to use social media to actually monetize your skills, passions, and creativity — keep reading.

---
The Leaky Bucket Problem

Here’s the first trap most creators fall into:

They’re posting, but it’s like pouring water into a bucket full of holes.

Every piece of content you put out is water. But without direction, without strategy, all that effort just leaks out. You end up frustrated, burnt out, and wondering why nothing’s working.

Consistency without purpose doesn’t pay off.
---
Shift #1: Quality > Quantity

Let me be clear: posting often matters. But posting the right kind of content matters more.

Too many people just copy trends, slap a flyer up, or post random content because they “know they need to post.” That’s not strategy — that’s noise.

Here’s the difference:

- 50 true followers who like your style, vibe, and offers >>> 5,000 random followers who don’t care.
- Going viral off a trend that doesn’t match your brand will only set you back. Because now you’re stuck serving an audience that doesn’t actually want what you’re about.

So yes, use trending audios or memes — but make sure they align with your message and attract your people. Slow growth is fine when it’s the right people.

---

Shift #2: Understand the Platform & the People

Every platform has one main goal: keep people on the app.

They do this with discovery and attention. That’s why your feed is full of strangers, not just people you follow.

So what does that mean for you?

- Your content has to grab the attention of someone who’s never heard of you.
- You’ve got to stop the scroll and hold their attention.

At the same time, you need to understand why your audience is on the platform.

- On YouTube, people want to learn. They’ll sit through long lessons.
- On TikTok, people want to escape. They’re scrolling for laughs, surprises, or something shareable.
- On Instagram, it’s a mix — quick discovery through reels, connection through stories, community through comments and DMs.

When you line up platform goals + audience goals, you win.

---

Attraction: Create Shareable or Valuable Content

Not all content is created equal. The stuff that actually travels falls into two categories:

1. Shareable — funny, emotional, surprising, relatable. The kind of stuff people send to the group chat.
2. Valuable — educational, problem-solving, or searchable. The kind of stuff people *look for* when they need answers.

Both need to be built for strangers. Someone who doesn’t know you at all should still get value from your post and think, “I need to follow this person.”

---

Outbound: Don’t Just Wait for the Algorithm

Here’s the secret most people miss: you can’t just sit back and wait for the algorithm to do all the work.

You have to go out and connect. That means:

- Commenting on 10 posts a day in your niche (adding value, not just “fire emojis”).
- DM’ing 5–10 new people a day to start conversations (not pitching — connecting).
- Collaborating with other creators at least once a month (lives, collab posts, interviews).

This gets you in front of other people’s audiences. It builds real relationships. And it signals to the algorithm who your content should be shown to.

---

Turning Conversations Into Conversions

Here’s the part where the money shows up.

People don’t usually buy just because they saw one viral video. They buy because of trust — and trust is built through conversations.

That could be in the comments, in your DMs, or in a live. But the flow is the same:

1. Grab attention with content.
2. Start conversations with the people engaging.
3. Guide them to a clear next step (CTA).

No next step = wasted attention.

---

Consistency That Counts

Consistency matters, but not in the way people think. It’s not about posting 100 times a day. It’s about aligning with the PACs:

- Platform — What formats work best here?
- Algorithm — Who is it showing content to?
- Culture — Why are people here in the first place?

Then you figure out cadence. For example:

- TikTok: 1–3 times a day works.
- YouTube: 1–2 long-form videos a week + shorts.
- LinkedIn: 2–4 thoughtful posts a week.
- Instagram: Reels for strangers, stories for connection, carousels for depth.

Consistency is about staying present with the right kind of content, not just flooding the feed.

---

What To Do Next

Here’s a simple 90-day plan:

- Create 3 pieces of content per week built for discovery (shareable or valuable).
- Comment on 10 posts a day in your niche.
- Start 5–10 new conversations per day in the DMs.
- Collaborate once a month.

Do this consistently for 60–90 days and watch your brand shift.

If you’ve been posting daily and still feel stuck, this is the missing piece. Posting every day isn’t the answer — posting with purpose is.

Comment “System” if you’re tired of posting without results and want my free training that shows how I help my clients fix these.

Most entrepreneurs are stuck because of one (or more) of these:

1️⃣ Invisible online – nobody sees your content.
2️⃣ Hustling backwards – working hard with nothing to show.
3️⃣ Inconsistent leads – waiting on referrals or the algorithm.
4️⃣ Money not matching effort – underpricing or no strategy.
5️⃣ Drowning in advice – overwhelmed & stuck.

These aren’t random struggles. They’re patterns I see in almost every brand I audit. And the good news? They’re fixable with the right system.

That’s exactly what I break down in my free training.
