U.S. Congressman John Lewis, who devoted his life to racial justice and equality, died Friday after a 6-month battle with pancreatic cancer.

The Press offers our deepest condolences to the Lewis family and the entire country as we mourn this great loss.

“I say to people today, ‘You must be prepared if you believe in something. If you believe in something, you have to go for it. As individuals, we may not live to see the end.’” – John Lewis

🗣”I have a career that’s probably comparable to Meryl Streep, Julianne Moore, Sigourney Weaver. They all came out of Yale, they came out of Juilliard (which Davis attended), they came out of NYU. They had the same path as me, and yet I am nowhere near them. Not as far as money, not as far as job opportunities. nowhere close to it. But I have to get on that phone and people say you’re a Black Meryl Streep. There is no one like you. OK, then if there’s no one like me, you think I’m that, you pay me what I’m worth.”

Ava DuVernay and Colin Kaepernick team up on new 6-part Netflix series: Colin in Black & White.

The series will focus on Kaepernick’s formative high school years, lending meaningful insight into the acts and experiences that led him to become the activist he is today.

“Too often we see race and Black stories portrayed through a white lens,” said Kaepernick. “We seek to give new perspective to the differing realities that Black people face. We explore the racial conflicts I faced as an adopted Black man in a white community, during my high school years. It’s an honor to bring these stories to life in collaboration with Ava for the world to see.”
