Athletes of the Year named in this past week's issue of the Parkland Press. Nezar Haddad and Morgan Rentzheimer awarded as Trojan Athletes of the Year.

- Haddad: Finished his wrestling career with a 129-36 record, while earning 45 of those as a senior. He was a district champion and state runner-up three times as a wrestler at Parkland. In football, he was a linebacker on the Trojans' defense that helped capture back-to-back district titles.

- Rentzheimer: Finished her senior season with a 21-1 record on the mound for the Lady Trojans' softball team, while posting a 0.82 ERA. As a volleyball player, she recorded 54 aces and a 93% serving percentage. She helped the Lady Trojans earn conference championships in both sports, while winning the District XI championship in softball.

- Will Barr (pictured below) and the Parkland boys' basketball team remain undefeated in Stellar Summer Basketball League.
- North Parkland edges out South Parkland in legion baseball contest.
- Lehigh Valley Legion earns 8-2 victory over Schuylkill-Berks Legion in all-star game. A total of five Parkland players participated in the game. North Parkland had invites from Justin Afflerbach, Daniel Zaccaro and Walter Roland. Kyle Buchman and Zach Miller represented South Parkland.
- Scholar-athletes recognized for Lehigh Valley Conference.

Update from Monday's District XI Class AAAA baseball and softball tournaments:

PIAA Class AAAA softball: #Parkland downs District 1's No. 4 seed Spring-Ford in a first round matchup, 5-0, to advance to Thursday's quarterfinals. The Lady Trojans face District 1 champ Avon Grove at Souderton H.S. at 2 p.m.

PIAA Class AAAA baseball: #Parkland falls short against District 1's No. 4 seed Spring-Ford in its first round game on Monday, 2-1, ending their successful season.

An update from Thursday's District XI softball championship: No. 1 #Parkland downed No. 2 #PleasantValley, 6-1, for its first district crown since 2005. The Lady Trojans will face District 1's No. 4 seed #SpringFord in the first round of the PIAA tournament on Monday. Game time is 7 p.m. at Pates Park.

The #Parkland boys' tremendous volleyball season came to an end in today's PIAA quarterfinals, 3-0 (25-22, 25-23, 27-25), against #CentralBucksWest. The Trojans have been in the PIAA tournament two of the past three seasons. #ParklandPress

Both the Parkland baseball and softball teams captured wins during their district tournament games on Wednesday.

- For the baseball team, Gabe Mosser pitched a complete-game shutout to secure the 3-0 victory for the Trojans and the District XI Class AAAA championship. It marks the second-consecutive year the Trojans earned district gold. They will face District 1's No. 4 seed in the first round of the PIAA tournament.

- In District XI Class AAAA softball semifinals, the Lady Trojans outlasted Northampton by a final score of 5-3. The Lady Trojans, who have not lost all year, will face Pleasant Valley in tonight's title game. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Pates Park.

District 3's No. 2 seed Lancaster Country Day ended the Lady Trojans' lacrosse season in the first round of the PIAA tournament. The Lady Trojans suffered the 16-9 loss on Wednesday in their first trip to the state tournament.

The Parkland boys' volleyball squad advanced to the PIAA quarterfinals on Saturday after defeating District I's No. 3 seed Pennridge, 3-1, on Wednesday. The Trojans will face District I's No. 1 seed, Central Bucks West, at Souderton High School at noon.

- In Class AAA boys javelin: Stephen Laird took 15th (179-03) and Derek Ziegenfuss placed 24th (162-10).

Parkland baseball and softball teams, both No. 1 seeds in their respective district tournaments, keep aspirations alive on winning District XI hardware.

The Trojans' baseball team downed No. 5 Liberty on Saturday in the District XI Class AAAA semifinals, 2-1. The Trojans will face No. 7 Stroudsburg on Wednesday at Coca-Cola Park. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m.

In softball, the Lady Trojans defeated No. 9 Nazareth (7-1) in the quarterfinals; they'll face No. 5 Northampton on Tuesday at Pates Park at 7 p.m.

Parkland boys' volleyball team downs Emmaus in District XI Championships, 3-1, to earn gold. The Trojans, who earned first district crown since 2008 season, have ended the Hornets' run of three-straight district titles.

The Parkland girls' lacrosse team captured their first ever District XI championship with a 20-13 win over Southern Lehigh. The Trojans were able to avenge last year's 9-7 loss to Spartans in district title game. Sophie Castillo (7G, 2A) and Kelsey Carlon (5G, 2A) led way for Trojans.
