JoySwich is a budding, new company based in Portland, Maine, focused on getting people outdoors to enjoy all the recreational activities Maine and New England have to offer. Joy and Solitude Within Hiking and Camping is the mission of this company started by partners Adam McHugh and Mae Holmes.
The two started their journey by creating a community around disc golf. JoySwich Putt League is the first installment of manifesting the vision to provide accessible, inclusive recreational opportunities to Maine communities. The goal is to develop a pipeline of outside activities – whether it be disc golf, camping, biking, swimming, hiking or partying – all while building a community around those activities.
Ultimately, Adam and Mae are looking for a property to be the center for all things adventure. In the meantime, the JoySwich conch shell, so to speak, is ringing sounds of chains and cheers around the East Bayside neighborhood of Portland with their putting leagues. The current eight-week putting league started on June 20 and takes place every Monday evening from 6 – 8 pm, with practice beforehand at 5. The practice sessions are open to the public to try and learn disc golf putting.Teams consist of four to six people, with bowling scoring rules governing the game. At Rising Tide, Goodfire, Austin Street and Belleflower, league action is accessible for viewing pleasure and allows for the potential of viewers and patrons to sub in on a team when folks can’t make it. Each week, players are granted prizes for most improved player and most putts made.
JoySwich also offers disc golf course and putting pop-ups, brewery collaborations and special events, along with island cleanups and educational workshops for kids and adults. With a strong focus on getting women interested and involved in disc golf, women-only educational workshops are offered, as well as disc-based and other recreational outings throughout the summer and fall.

We had the pleasure of touring their medical cannabis shop, and it’s definitely worth a visit. Located conveniently on Route 1,the space is aesthetically pleasing, with a friendly, informative staff and loaded with quality products. They also were recently organically nominated for best ma*****na dispensary on the seacoast by Seacoast Online. We heard through the grapevine that a second Mark’s Organix location might sprout soon.

Strawberry Rhubarb Mojito

1-2 tbsp Squier’s Strawberry Rhubarb Elixir
8oz sparkling water
1oz lime juice
3-4 mint leaves, torn
Like wedge for garnish
Ice for serving

1. Gently middle mint in your favorite highball glass
2. Add our Strawberry Rhubarb Elixir, sparkling water, and lime juice to the glass. Stir to combine.
3. Add ice and garnish with a lime wedge and mint sprig
