Stay at Home-ista

Stay at Home-ista Mom of six, kindergarten to college. I'm a stay at home mom with full time help, rejecting the guilt, reclaiming my sanity through hobbies.

I ski, hike, play mahjong, and read (175 books last year)! I just finished designing and building a ski house too!

A lot went wrong this summer.
I had plans. Plans that involved me and massages and reading and quiet. I did not plan on parents having strokes and traumatic brain injuries and becoming an expert on local home health care and assisted living options.
As we move into fall, I’m trying to let that all go, my expectations and my disappointments, and take the lessons with me. Set reasonable goals. Be kind to myself. Enjoy my kids.

The beauty of seasonal goals is that I can check in with my yearly goals, last season, and look ahead and try to decide what’s reasonable. Fall is a super busy season, so I’m lowering my expectations and focusing on relationships, health, and being inclusive and welcoming.

The biopsy of my ear came back being a few weeks ago, but after that scare there is no way I’m skipping this. Come with me for a full body skin check with my dermatologist. I go every year, and often have a few visits in between to check in spots of interest.
Even if you’re not as fair skinned and feckless as I am, go every year anyway. I have 3 friends who have had melanoma. Call and book the appointment. Love you 🥰

Summer goals!
I love seasonal goals, they feel manageable and keep me on track. This summer I really crushed spending time with my kids 1:1. I did ok with things like mahjong and boating. Where I failed? I read very little (for me), and walked 1-2x outside total, instead of multiple times a week…
Hopefully this will help me set fall goals and for next summer!

I don’t want my kids to see a mom who did everything perfectly.

I want them to see a woman who:
- takes care of her family and herself
- creates a home she loves
- invests in relationships and community
- asks for help
- isn’t afraid to have opinions
- lives her values openly
- keeps growing and figuring things out

If you’re trying to build a family—and a life—you actually love living, I think you’ll like it here.

Even with a full time nanny and occasional babysitters, I still find myself wanting more help for the Jewish high holidays. I want my husband and I to be able to pray and go to synagogue as much as we want, and for our youngest kids to get what they need- some synagogue time, and some downtime between all the holiday meals and relatives and friends.
