Shannon to Acquire Scenic Mountain Medical Center
Proposed Acquisition to Preserve Local Healthcare Access for Big Spring Community

BIG SPRING, Texas – January 9, 2026 – Shannon Health System (Shannon) today announced it has entered into an asset purchase agreement to acquire all assets of Scenic Mountain Medical Center in Big Spring, Texas, from subsidiaries of Quorum Health. The agreement marks a key milestone in Shannon’s continued investment to improve healthcare access and services across the Big Spring community.
When finalized, SMMC will become part of Shannon’s regional system, which includes three hospitals, 25 clinic locations, and more than 400 providers across West Texas.
In 2024, Shannon purchased the West Texas Medical Plaza, where Scenic Mountain Medical Group is located, further demonstrating its commitment to expanding access to care for the Big Spring community. The expansion will include increasing primary care space for additional providers and expanding specialty care spaces so patients can have access to cardiology, dermatology, endocrinology, orthopedics, general surgery, neurosurgery, nephrology, allergy, and oncology care. Additional plans at the clinic include remodeling urology and other key departments, creating a new urgent care clinic for walk-in care, and installing imaging and mammography equipment to expand diagnostic capabilities. The renovation is being funded by a generous gift from the G.C. Broughton, Jr. Foundation.
“We’re truly honored to take this next step with the Big Spring community,” said Shane Plymell, President and Chief Executive Officer of Shannon. “Through our existing Shannon Clinic Big Spring, we’ve grown familiar with the people here and their needs for additional specialized, local health care. This agreement allows us to expand that relationship and bring more care and resources to the area.”
“Joining Shannon is a natural fit for our hospital, as the locally owned organization has deep regional roots and shares our commitment to advancing care in the Big Spring area,” said Mallik Chowdary Yenigella, Chief Executive Officer of Scenic Mountain Medical Center. “This transition strengthens our ability to continue supporting the healthcare needs in Big Spring. We share the same mission and values with Shannon and we’re encouraged by their additional commitment to the community we all love.”
The signing of the Asset Purchase Agreement begins an asset purchase closing process that is expected to be finalized in the coming months. In the meantime, nothing will change for patients or employees of either organization. During the approval process, Shannon Medical Center and Scenic Mountain Medical Center will continue to operate as separate and independent organizations.
