This is a museum, tourist attraction and cultural experience all in one. is a gem in New Orleans with an elevator ride like no other. I enjoy places like this because you get a taste of the city and its history and support a local organization.

Looking for things to do in New Orleans? Take a sightseeing tour of the city.

For the Sagittarius who learns by seeing and experiencing things…

In Summer 2023, I visited New Orleans for the first time. It was a short trip so how could I see as much of the city as possible on a budget of funds and time? I found a sightseeing city bus tour. For two hours, I got to ride through parts of NOLA and get a taste of its historical significance. And its architecture and home design.

If you’re interested in historical sights, house designs and building architecture, neighborhoods like Garden District, Treme, Ninth Ward, the popular in City Park for beignets…I highly recommend it.

In 2023, I took my first ride on the Amtrak train en route to visit New Orleans for the first time and did it all solo dolo. I was pretty new to taking public transportation and I realized something while on the train…there’s something community oriented about traveling this way. You have an opportunity to connect with others for a few moments and possibly make new acquaintances, which is nice.

When I take off my headphones for a minute, I can strike up conversations with others and learn something new about them or the destination where we’re headed. I appreciate that because it doesn’t happen all the time. It makes the solo journey less lonely and more enjoyable sometimes.

GOOD TO KNOW:

📌 Coach seats on the Amtrak are pretty affordable and spacious (good leg room!)

📌 You can bring up to two carry-on bags in the train car

📌 Bring snacks

📌 Wifi gets spotty and drops when traveling through certain areas

📌 Be prepared for stops to let people off and on at different stations

📌 Be prepared for a long ride, depending on your destination

📌 Bring books, gadgets, something to keep you entertained for a longer ride
