The Dollar General store in Bluff Park is closing. We reached out to Dollar General for comment, and they stated, “Dollar General’s Hoover store at 2144 Tyler Road currently plans to close in January 2025. Impacted employees were offered an opportunity to transfer to a nearby store, and we remain committed to serving our customers at our additional stores in Jefferson and Shelby Counties.”

🏊🏆 Congratulations to Bluff Parkers Lucy Benoit, a senior at Hoover, and Thomas Powell, an 8th grader at Simmons, as they compete for Hoover Swim and Dive. Lucy placed 3rd in dive today, and Thomas competes in 1M diving tomorrow.

Way to go, Bucs!

Bluff Park Elementary’s 2024-2025 Teacher of the Year is Mrs. Katie Collins!!! 🎉 Mrs. Collins is a teacher of many, not a teacher of few. Her influence reaches beyond her classroom and is felt around the whole school and community of Bluff Park. Mrs. Collins is innovative in her classroom, always thinking outside the box, and has a passion for serving our students and school. She dreams big by coming up with innovative ideas on how to enhance the curriculum and challenge her students. From hydroponics to the Bluff Park Farmers Market, you will find Mrs. Collin’s doing whatever is necessary for the success of others!

Alabama’s oldest fine and traditional craft guild is the Alabama Craft Guild. Today and tomorrow, they’re holding their 51st annual show at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens. Among the 32 featured artists are Bluff Park artisans Laurens Cotten, David Byland, and Matthew Allen.

The show is today (Sat 11/9) from 9-4, and tomorrow (Sun 11/10) from 10-3.

Happy hour for KIDS!?

Everyone loves a good happy hour. Having the chance to enjoy discount food and drinks with friends and family while others idle by in rush hour traffic is something to look forward to at the end of a long day.

But what about kids? They should be also able to enjoy a delicious treat with their friends at the end of a long day - and now they can!

We're starting a happy hour for kids (and adults too!) that runs Monday through Thursday from 3-5 PM. During happy hour, all orders of ice cream will be 2 dollars off (excluding kids cups). That means you can get a single scoop of ice cream for almost the same price as a kids cup - and it's double the ice cream!

Copper Top! 👀The sharp-eyed among you will have noticed we recently redid our roof and part of that was replacing our old copper steeple with a new one! So shiny! You just can't top that classic look! ⛪

This beautifully restored Crafstman home is situated with an incredible view westward off Shades Mountain. We are thankful to the Rainwater family for opening their home to us.

HUGE congrats to one of our favorites, SRO Pace!

We are proud to announce that another HPD School Resource Officer has reached one of the highest levels of achievement for an SRO: the status of National SRO Practitioner.

Congratulations, Officer Brett Pace! Officer Pace is shown here with Bluff Park Elementary principal Ami Weems.

The National SRO Practitioner program was established as a way for NASRO, police agencies, and school districts to recognize officers who have excelled in the area of school-based policing. The program seeks to distinguish those officers who are committed to serving our nation’s youth, along with the communities and schools they serve.

We are also pleased to announce that it is the goal of every HPD Resource Officer to obtain this status, and remaining officers in the SRO unit are currently working towards achieving their accreditation.

Congratulations to these officers for going above and beyond not only for the community they serve, but to each and every child in the HCS system. They pitch in where ever and whenever they are needed.
