Evie Lewis Vocal Studios, LLC

Evie Lewis Vocal Studios, LLC Evie is a Brett Manning Certified Associate Vocal Coach located in Hoover, Alabama.
(14)

A vocal coach specializing in vocal therapy, style, interpretation, and technique. The "official" coach of internationally known evangelist Matt Pitt, The Church of The Highlands Worship Teams, Oteil Burbridge of the Allman Brothers, and many others. So soft spoken at times, one may have to strain to hear her, but when you step into her studio, make no mistake, you are in the presence of someone who knows and understands the many complexities of the human voice. Her near perfect pitch and spot-on diagnosis of vocal strengths and weaknesses in her clients' voices make her one of the most sought out voice instructors in the lower south. She believes strongly in the theory that 5 minutes of positive reinforcement, encouragement, and laughter is worth more than 20 hours of tension filled training.

Hello my friends, we are living in an unprecedented time in our lives right now and many of my friends and peers are scrambling, trying to figure out how best to cope. Musicians and artists world wide who have been earning a living for themselves and their families almost overnight have lost jobs and gigs. It’s truly a frightening time for all of us.
We are all affected by the power of music; think about it, every significant moment in our lives is underscored by a melody, a lyric or drum beat. All creation was formed in rhythm and melody, it is our very life’s blood.
We’re all in this together, so if there’s something each of us can do to help one another, even in the middle of our own limitations, let’s do it.
What can you do?
1. If you have the resources; would you consider gifting a vocal session(s) to your favorite singer. It will boost their confidence and give them tools to keep their voices in shape for when they can begin gigging again.
2. If they have product, go buy it. Like them on social media and give them some much needed encouragement.
What will I do?
1. Effective tomorrow until April 30, I will offer sessions at one half my regular rate.
2. If you are out of work and unable to pay, I will defer payment, or, you can pay what you can. We can start a “tab” until which time you are back at work and able to pay.
We’re going to call this “The Evie Lewis Vocal Studios Stimulus Package” ❤️

This is Madison. At first she was so shy and didn’t have a lot of confidence in her voice; in fact she sang so softly, her voice was barely audible and she couldn’t find her mix. This is her third session, I’m so proud of her bravery, this is a clip of her in full on, well-balanced mix. It brings me so much joy to watch this precious young lady blossoming right in front of me. How fortunate to get a front row seat to the amazing artist she is becoming, stay tuned...#vocalcoach #ilovemyjob #singer #artist #balanced #nobelting #mix #presence #demilovatocover #anyone #eviesvocal #hearthediffrence

🟥Studio Notice🟥
For the moment, the studio will continue sessions as normal unless otherwise instructed by medical and or governmental authorities. I will be taking every precaution necessary to keep the studio safe, clean and sanitized as possible. I ask that anyone coming to the facility be healthy. If you are feeling unwell or have been exposed to anyone who is sick please contact me as soon as possible for rescheduling.
I want to be as sensitive to your needs in the extremely unpredictable time in our history as possible. It is my chief priority that everyone (myself included) remain healthy and safe.
If you are healthy and are hesitant to come to the studio; you always have the option of doing your session online via FaceTime or Zoom.
If you need to cancel your session, PLEASE remember I require a 48 hour cancellation notice. I want to protect your investment, however, since no one knows at this time how long we will be facing this; as a small business owner the financial losses could have devastating effects. If we all work together we will achieve a positive outcome.
Let’s continue to pray for our peace, good health and a spirit of togetherness in the coming days and weeks.
Blessings and good health!
Evie

Taking the time to study your song or act to discover places for breath gives you energy for the next phrase. Practice even breathing, [it] should never be influenced by the tempo or whether it’s a “high or low” note. There’s no reason to feel like you have to “reach” a note or get a bigger breath to get to a note. Relax and think pitch, not reach. You will feel better and in turn your audience will experience the same freedom you feel! #vocalcoach #breathe #singersongwriters #speakers #voiceactor #voiceprofessional #relax #excellence #attitude #freedom #discipline #eviesvocal #hearthedifference

Breathe!
Dissect your act or song and look for moments where you can take breaths. Breathe normally. Also, allow your audience to breathe. Give them that permission.

Be reachable. You will have your own perception of how you look or sound, but someone who is on the outside watching or listening to you will have a different perspective that you don’t have. It’s actually very valuable to listen to other people’s notes. Don’t ever think you’re too good or too far advanced in your discipline to hear what others say. #voicecoach #humility #beteachable #excellence #attitude #eviesvocal

Day 7. Our minds have amazing capabilities, did you know our imaginations cannot tell the difference in what’s real or imaginary. Stop. Take a moment to recognize that feeling then celebrate the fact that this doesn’t have to overtake you. When you are successful in doing this, the audience will “belong” to you then you will be able to share your gift openly and freely. Remember, love is the more excellent way and gratitude is the most powerful currency in the world...I really believe this! #vocalcoach #speaklife #singersongwriters #gratitude #loveistheanswer #excellence #attitudeofgratitude #positive #imagination #eviesvocal ❤️🎵❤️🎵

Staying hydrated is a key element in maintaining the health of our body and voice. Our bodies are nearly 75 percent water, so we simply work better when we are hydrated. Have a headache, feel moody or hungry? Your body is likely needing water. Boost your energy for your performance and for your voice. Water is life! #voicecoach #vocalcoach #singers #speakers #athlete #excellence #performers #attitude #waterislife #training #clinician #workshops #eviesvocal #hearthedifference #atlanta #birmingham #montreal #nashville #newsouthwales #allthebrightplaces 🎵💧🎪

Drink Water!
Hydration is important for energy, for mood and for your performance level. Everything will be better if you stay hydrated.

02/15/2020

Sleep!
If you only need 6 hours then sleep 6 hours, but be consistent about it. Let your body get used to how you want it to sleep so that your rest will be more restorative.

02/14/2020

Be Nervous!!!
If you’re not nervous you’re not good, because if you’re not nervous you don’t care.

Less Is More!
At some point you have to stand still. Every move you make, the fingertips, the eyes, the looks, these create moments and build intensity.

Connect With the Audience!
You can have the most skill, but if you don’t take time to see your audience, whatever you do will be empty. Show them how much you care that they are there!

I was so honored to get to do a session with my dear friend and brother Marc Phillips today. His list of musical accomplishments is very long and chances are you’ve heard him sing or one of the national or local ad campaigns he’s written. He’s been the front man for incredible rock bands and toured with some of the biggest names in the music biz. He took a chance on me many years ago and hired me to sing on a gazillion commercial jingles or do BGV’s for other artists. His love for Jesus and his big faith is awe-inspiring to me. So grateful I’m getting the opportunity to work with his voice and get it in top shape for his new project. I’m also over the moon blessed and excited to share a platform again soon! #vocalcoach #vocaltherapy #throatcancer #survivor #rockband #hotel #sneakypetes #youregonnaloveagain #mtvbasementtapes #worship #singersongwriter #keys #eviesvocal #hearthedifference #indigenouspeople #cherokee

12 Days of Happy Singing. Day 12
There are three basic resonators involved in singing. Chest. Head and Pharyngeal edge. Removing tension and maintaining a neutral larynx will extend the range and remove the “breaks” experienced in the voice while singing.
Try doing sirens starting with the lowest comfortable note and moving to the highest comfortable note without tension or “directing” your voice by making a scrunched up face or raising your shoulders. This is an effective way to decrease or eliminate the “break” in your voice!

Cirque du Soleil has a new Christmas album and show out. My favorite Christmas project this year. I love this company and their continued open door policy of every idea is a good idea. They feed creativity, not starve it by listening to ideas and encouraging us to imagine more. This is the reason for their success; it’s not about who you know, it’s about knowing you. #voicecoach #vocaltherapist #imaginemore #oftenimitatedneverduplicated #excellence #hardwork #diligence #workethic #youneverarrive #youkeepstriving #everyday

12 Days of Merry Singing.
Day 11
Cord closure.
In recent years, we’ve heard in the news of so many music artists canceling tours or retiring early because of vocal injuries. Nearly all of these incidents would have been prevented with a little care.
I can’t stress the importance of this enough. For example, Jordan Sparks, John Meyer, Adele, and Miley Cyrus all experienced major injury to their voice in 1 note! Partly because of bad vocal habits that led to the event or trying to sing through illness or they decided to just “go” for “that” note. Is it worth it?!
Maintaining an even and consistent flow of air through the vocal folds is of vital importance to the process of singing. Things like vocal fry, clearing your throat, coughing, belting and singing or speaking with a breathy sound are vocal abuse. The vocal cords are two small thin reeds housed within the larynx. These abuses place far too much weight on the cords and eventually can cause a potentially voice altering event. Learning to sing with the absence of strain or tension will prevent vocal cord injury and keep your voice healthy for a lifetime. 🎵💜

12/21/2019

🎵 12 Days of Merry Singing. Day 10 🎵

There are three major components used in the process of singing.
1. Position of the larynx.
2. Cord closure
3. Connecting the voice smoothly and seamlessly through all registers.

Place your fingers on the front of your throat and swallow. You will feel a “bump” go up and then move down during the process. That “bump” is the larynx, Adam’s apple, or voice box. If the larynx goes up and locks (98% of the vocalists I’ve worked with have experienced this) you’re experiencing tension and far more musculature involvement than is needed to produce easy and free singing.
Experiment using a dopey or hooty sounding voice by mimicking “Yogi the bear” until you feel the larynx lowering or yawn to release the tension. 🎵🌲🎁

12 Days of Merry Singing!
Day 8
Voices ought not be measured by how pretty they are. Instead they matter only if they convince you that they are telling the truth.

Here are some tips for singers (and speakers) as you’re preparing for all the holiday parties and Christmas services this next week!

Many singers will be doing lots of shows/services over the next couple weeks. Here are some great tips to help you get the most out of your voice.
1. ALWAYS warm up...at the very least 15 minutes.
2. Drink water, then more water and then have some water.
3. Sleep as much as you can before your performances.
4. Hot teas are wonderful to
help keep your voice warm after you've done your vocal warm-up, but please don't put honey in your hot tea just before you sing...it will just gunk up your voice again.
5. Locally grown organic honey is the best thing in the world to combat allergies, mix with a little cinnamon and lemon juice for added benefit...but not before singing.
6. Stay away from dairy products before you sing (24 hrs).
7. After singing, eat a clean protein like Salmon, chicken or lean beef to help rebuild the vocal cords. Remember, they're muscles too and need protein to help rebuild the fibers that have been broken down while singing.
8. NO SCREAMING or yelling!
9. Do a little exercise before you sing, get that blood flowing!
10. Be gracious to yourself, your voice is the most unique instrument ever created, it can be affected by many things, stress, acid-reflux, diet, lack of rest. Some days you will feel great and some days you may feel like you can't hit a note. Be patient and keep striving. Developing good habits will shorten the times between bad vocal days and the great vocal days.
Happy Singing! 🎵💜

12 Days of Merry Singing.
Day 7
Stop avoiding vocal exercises like they’re your creepy relatives during the holidays. Engage with the true spirit of the season.

My heart is so full my eyes are leaking. I had the incredible honor to take some of my beautiful artists to share a little Christmas joy at Grace House Ministries this afternoon. Grace House is a wonderful home that offers a safe Christian atmosphere for young girls ages 6-18 who have been displaced from their own homes for varying reasons. So grateful for @brinkleyrackstrawmusic @joshkinneymusic @lilykauffman_ and @iamrachelsummers for sharing their sweet hearts and beautiful talent with the young ladies there. To watch them interact and spend time with these girls was so special, it revealed the true and inspiring leaders they are all called to be no matter the genre they choose to sing. And I have to give an extra special shout out to @julieakauffman for being the HERO of the day and to @katherineakauffman for ministering with so much wisdom and grace. I was doing all I could to hold it together while she spoke. I couldn’t have dreamed a better gift. I will look back on the memory of today in the coming days with so much gratitude in my heart.
