🏗️Know the Lingo: How Construction Costs Are Quoted🏗️
When you’re planning a build or renovation, hearing a dollar number toss around can feel like guesswork. That’s because no two projects are identical. Your location, materials, layout, finishes, and even site conditions all affect cost.
Here’s how the pros break it down so you can feel confident as we bring your vision to life:
🏗️ ROM (Rough Order of Magnitude)
Your early ballpark. It’s based on averages or similar projects and helps start the conversation.
📄 Estimate / Bid
A contractor’s forecast of labor, materials, and overhead based on the current scope. It stays flexible until all details are final.
💰 Firm Bid / Lump Sum
A fixed price once every finish, fixture, and material is locked in. You’ll have more certainty, but any changes become a “change order.”
🔧 Change Orders
When you add or alter something mid-project, it gets priced separately and added to your total.
