The talented and very cool Nadine Chahine, recently promoted to UK type director for Monotype, chats about type design with The New York Times. The piece is too short by far, but it's great to see Nadine and type design featured in The Times.

Decide on a personality. Don’t be hasty with your Arabic typefaces.

There are a multitude of new features to make designing type easier. Performance is spectacular. Every function has been re-thought to make your tasks of creating and editing fonts more fun and quicker. Yet keyboard shortcuts from FontLab Studio were kept wherever possible.

Breathing new life into typographic history, Mark van Bronkhorst's TypoBrand LLC today announced the release of the American Type Founders® Collection. Paying homage to the classic designs made famous by the American Type Founders Co., the ATF® Collection features thoughtful reinterpretations of well-known and well-loved faces. The collection launches with 117 fonts, including an expanded ATF Alternate Gothic, a sassy take on ATF Brush, and a sweet hidden gem, ATF Wedding Gothic™.

The typefaces originally produced by the American Type Founders Company are well known and well loved. From the familiar sans serif letterforms seen virtually everywhere to thoughtful revivals of historic text faces, ATF’s type designs have inspired countless fonts by other foundries.

The first part of my series on the Adobe Originals anniversary went live last week. It's an honor to help chronicle the history of this groundbreaking type design program. Type folks-in-the-know might recognize my snap below: it's the infamous wall of pica poles at The Museum of Printing, a fantastic treasure trove in North Andover, Massachusetts. Go back to the very early days of digital typography in our blog series which celebrates the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Adobe Originals type program. http://adobe.ly/AO25-1

F+W Media is closing PRINT magazine's NYC office doors and laying off the pub's Gotham-based editorial team. PRINT is moving to Cincinnati, where its editorial ops will be merged with those of sister pub HOW. Although both focused on design, the two publications maintained distinctly different voices, with varied content appropriate to diverse audiences within the niche. Former PRINT editor-in-chief Emily Gordon calls it "the end of an era." I couldn't agree more.

Sweet type for sweeter sites: Sweet® Sans, the sublime engravers' family from MVB Fonts, is now available in webfont format from the fine folks at Webtype. We've been waiting not-terribly-patiently for this moment.

The amazing Hamilton Wood Type & Printing Museum in Two Rivers, Wisconsin, is being forced to move from their home. Holding over 1.5 million pieces of wood type, the museum is a treasure trove for anyone who uses and/or loves type, and a living history of printed communications. Please join the cause—help the Hamilton as they struggle to relocate.

Operated by volunteers of the Two Rivers Historical Society, the Hamilton Wood Type and Printing Museum is the only museum dedicated to the preservation, study, production and printing of wood type.

Found on FontFeed: Yves Peters ponders whether typography predicted the outcome of the 2012 US presidential election. I vote yes! Good typography is critical to branding and message, and American-as-apple-pie baseball script MVB Mascot® was part of the winning team for President Barack Obama's re-election campaign.—TR

MVB Mascot®: http://bit.ly/mvbmas

Now that the dust has settled and the United States of America have elected their new… errr… old president, I thought I’d have a look at the campaign logos to see if the type tells us anything that we should have known. 20/20 hindsight, ya know? SinceShepard Faireyand theObamacamp embraced Gotham fo...

TypeCon heads to breathtakingly green and achingly hip Portlandia, August 21-25, 2013, and this proud native Oregonian couldn't be happier. Contrary to popular belief, it does *not* rain 365 days a year in my home state. August in Portland will be divine, especially when combined with a heady mix of letter loving mayhem and the sweetly geeky people who obsess over these marvelous things. Psyched!—TR

The Society of Typographic Aficionados (SOTA) is pleased to announce that Portland, Oregon, has been selected as host city for TypeCon2013. Thanks to the top notch crew of local typophiles who have been instrumental in helping us bring TypeCon to The City of Roses.

The LettError Type & Typography fellas have revamped their website. Built with WordPress, it's replete with bold graphics, hand tuned type specimens, and writing on typographic experiments, all wrapped up in the founders' particular brand of Dutch humor. It's responsive, too. Good stuff.

New Posted by admin on November 24, 2012Oh dear, a new website. Well, the old one was falling apart. At some point I grew tired of writing XML by hand. This new site is WordPress. The LettError fonts have new pages and can be seen and purchased here. Links to RoboFab and Superpolator are still to co...

The incredible Hamilton Wood Type and Printing Museum in Two Rivers, Wisconsin, was a big part of TypeCon2012 in Milwaukee this summer. Jim Moran and company led workshops at the museum and printed onsite at the conference hotel. This museum is a treasure palace of type and printing history, preserving and furthering a craft that is an integral part of our heritage.

HWT hosts two workshops of 24 people at the museum on Wednesday and Thursday. Then we packed up a press and took the show on the road to TypeCon in Milwaukee. A wonderful weekend of printing, type, and new friends.

The San Francisco-based Book Club of California's gorgeous newsletter is printed by letterpress artist Richard Seibert, with illustrations by Patricia Curtan and principal type—MVB Verdigris®—by Mark van Bronkhorst at MVB Fonts. It's a lovely example of Bay Area creativity.

Verdigris, impressed: Berkeley’s talented Richard Seibert designs and prints the "Quarterly News-Letter" for the esteemed Book Club of California. Luscious letterpress work, with stunning illustrations by Patricia Curtan (of Chez Panisse fame). We’re thrilled that Richard uses MVB Verdigris® throughout these coffee table-worthy specimens. It’s what our dear book face was meant for.
