Today is the 219th birthday of Nancy Hoyt (Bean) Roberts, born August 8, 1806 in Poplin (now Fremont), New Hampshire. Hope to see you this Sunday at the Blandford, Massachusetts Fairgrounds, 10 North Street, for our 144th Roberts Reunion, when we will once again "celebrate the day that she was born".

About the Blandford Fair Grounds:

Home to the Union Agricultural & Horticulture Society founded in 1867, the fair grounds host the annual Blandford Fair each Labor Day Weekend. The site has served as an important meeting spot for neighboring towns for the last 158 years. Reunion activities on August 10 will take place in the dining hall as well as throughout the nearby outdoor space and pavilions. The Blandford Fair Preservation Association is actively raising money and renovating the facilities and we are pleased to help support this work by hosting the Reunion there.

Flashback Friday: Sticking with last week's theme of personal favorites, here's a group of guys that seems to be made up of mostly Noble & Cooley employees. Lord only knows what they are up to and what the occasion was but it looks like a hoot.
The young man center left in the front row (light-colored hat and snappy tie) is Arch Tryon (1882-1943). He looks to be in his early 20's which would put the photo around 1903. He married Mollie Ripley on December 23, 1903, and Arch has his arm around the shoulder of Silas Ripley, Mollie's father. Both Arch and Silas worked at N&C. It seems likely this photo had something to do with the engagement of Arch Tryon and Mollie Ripley. It was probably taken in late fall 1903 based on the remaining leaves on the trees in the background.
Others in the photo are Frank Rowley (far left) who left Granville around 1892 to become a joiner in Hartford, and Bert Roberts, who operated the local Granville stage (white shirt and suspenders) to the right of Silas Ripley.
